Hey Zack! You probably don't know me because you have so many fans. Are you ready for baseball season? I sure am. I have been reading your books, "The Baseball" and "How to Snag Major League Baseballs," over the offseason to get ready for some Yankee games. In fact, I have already got tickets to a Yankee game on April 23. I have seats in probably your favorite section: 104, Row 11, seats 1 and 2. I was wondering if you were going because I really want to meet you at a game. I had a chance once at a Pirates @ Phillies game last year, but I was in a field trip from Connecticut and we had the WORST seats and were confined to our section. Plus, we missed batting practice, came in the 2nd inning, and left before a record save and an interesting ending. Anyway, thanks for reading and I hope to hear that you'll be at the game in April. You probably don't know yet, but if you do, please tell me. I follow you on twitter to stay up to date with your snagging anyway. Have a great offseason and get ready because opening day is getting closer.

Respectfully,
Jake

Hi Zack I'm a big fan I really need some help. I want to be like you. I would like to have some tips on ballhawking. Or could you give me your books for free? Or I could give you some money for them. I'm so excited for the season aren't you. Here is my moms phone number [redacted]

February 4, 2016

Hey. I've been watching YouTube videos all night on what you do! And its awesome, I'm from Boston and go to the sox about 15 times a year, my cousins have amazing tickets 7 rows behind the plate and it's incredible. I have got one ball when I sat in right field, but a little girl was trying to get one the whole game so I gave it to her. Anyways, I wanna get some autographs and some baseball! My love for the game is serious, maybe not as strong as yours, but I'm up there. Anyways, if you are ever in Boston area, during the summer I have great seats all the time and would love to get some balls, please get back to me when ever you can, thanks man and go sox

-Sean

Dear Zack do you think you will come to nationals park this year I go to a lot of games and I really want to meet you in person. I really love the tips in your book and I can't wait to use them next year. Thank you for making these great videos I love watching them they are better than the homework I need to do right now.

Hey my name is Richard, I'm 15 and a young ball hawk, I just starting this past season. My home stadium is Baltimore. You inspire me to do great things and I watch all you're videos and blogs I've email you before but I just had one question because I'm planning on visiting Yankee stadium next year and I wanted to know about the Yankees Bp tour, does it allow early access in to the stadium and are you allowed to catch balls hit during the your. And do you just stay in there after the Gates open or when the tour ends do you have to go back outside and stand in line? Also congrats on ballhawk of the year.

Thanks, Richard

November 11, 2015

Hey Zack! You probably don't remember, but I've emailed you a few times and I ordered your book "How to Snag Major League Baseballs". Since I bought it, I've been to four games and snagged 5 balls, my first five ever. I'll also be getting your book "The Baseball" soon. Anyway, I was wondering if you knew something about Wrigley. Do you know how tight security is there? Do I NEED a ticket in the bleachers to get in there for BP? Or can I buy a ticket somewhere else and go in the bleacher section for BP? Thanks.

-Sean

November 5, 2015

Dear mr. Hample,
My name is Zane and I'm writing to you about your baseball collection. I live in Minnesota so I'm a huge twins fan and my family has season tickets a few rows behind the Twins dugout. And we've had tickets ever since target fields been around so 2010. Over the course of 5 years I have around 60 baseball courtesy of toss ups, foul balls, and if I move around during the game home run. I just wanted to say it's awesome how many balls you have collected it's truly amazing. If you don't mind me asking, out of all the balls you've collected what's your favorite or one of them? Do you have any relationships with any players? Favorite place to visit and snag balls? If you could get back to me that would be awesome! Thanks for your time!

November 2, 2015

October 18, 2015

Hey Zack! Huge fan! Wanted to show you these cool commemorative baseballs that i saw were used for Randy Johnson's number retirement. I didn't see this ball in your commemorative collection. Did you know they were using these balls? I'm sure you would go to try and snag one if you knew about it. Not my ball and not spam lol... Just thought you would be interested in this ball.
Also I'm 15 and work for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (Brewers AAA affiliate) so if you ever want to go to a game and your in the area you can lmk... It's a great place to snag balls, before i was a bat boy i would go behind the stadium during bp and be the only one out there and get 10-20 balls based on how they were at hitting that day.

Thank you so much for your time as I'm sure you receive 10,000 of these a day haha.

-Matt

October 1, 2015

I have been following you on Twitter for about 2 months. I ran across one of your videos and started looking you up. It's amazing what you do. I have never caught a game used ball, but I recently caught my first ball from a throw up after a game by Cody Decker. He even signed it before he threw it up. You are right, their is no better feeling. I can't wait to get back to the park and try again. Thanks for the tips. I am hoping I could maybe send you a ball for your autograph. If this is possible please let me know. Thanks again for the tips and your cool blog.

-Roman

September 30, 2015

Mr. Hample,

My son & I are big fans of yours. He is 10 and is a fellow ballhawk. He has read your book and uses some of your ideas and has come up with some of his own. We know your pain of being called a ball hog, his record is 22 balls in a single day. People often boo him but we take that with a grain of salt. His birthday is coming up and it would mean a lot to us if he could have a ball signed by you that I would like to surprise him with. If its not to much trouble can I have your address as to where I can send you a ball. If you ever make it to Cleveland please let us know we would also love to see you. I will send you a photo of him.

Big fans,
Brian & Andy

September 29, 2015

Hi Zack!

It was so nice meeting you! We had so many people text us telling us we are on twitter, it was pretty funny.

Thanks for making our night :)

Hope you enjoyed the rest of the game.

-Carly and Jami

September 29, 2015

Zack

Avery here. I've been seeing you lots on highlight packages and think it would be cool to catch a ball game with you and try and snag some baseballs. I thought I was doing good catching 2 batting practice balls my first game this year until I read your blog haha. Anyways, do you make it to Rogers Centre much? I'm a diehard Jays fan so I'm going back again next season for sure

-Avery

September 26, 2015

Hi Zack im a huge fan of yours I wish I could meet you! Is there anyway I can please get your autograph!?

Please and Thank you for your time!

September 20, 2015

Hi Zack,

Just caught up with the video on your catch of the 3000TH Hit of AROD and the decision process you took in contemplating what to do with the ball. Loved your decision and the love for the game....

Congratulations and I am glad to have met you.

-Marika

September 16, 2015

Hi Zack,

I don't know if you remember but at the Phillies game on September 14 I briefly spoke to you after batting practice near the Nationals dugout. As I said I see you at lots of Yankees games as I'm a die hard Yankees fan and go to about 10 games a season. I started reading your blog about a year ago and that really got me into ball hawking. I now get about 2 or 3 balls at Yankee Stadium a game. Which is really cool.

Anyway, since the Yankees are on the road I convinced by dad to drive to Philly for a game on Monday and at that stadium your tips really helped. I got 8... Including a game used ball! I just wanted to say thank you for your tips and tricks and I hope to see you at a few more Yankee games this year!

-Justino

September 7, 2015

Hi Zack. My name is Andy, and I watch your videos all the time. They are awesome, and it has gotten me into ball hawking. The games I go to are minor league baseball games. It isn't as easy to get balls and memorabilia, but you can usually snag around 2-3 a game. The teams don't use commemorative balls, but that's okay.

My favorite MLB team are the Washington Nationals. I tried going to a game this year and get some 10 year Nats commemorative balls, but it just couldn't happen. Have you been to a Nats game this year? If you have, would you be interested in selling or trading a Nationals 10 year commemorative ball? I really want one, so if you can please let me know.

If you are not available to move them, I totally understand.

Love your books, I have all 3.

Sincerely,
Andy

September 7, 2015

Mr. Hample,

It has been a personal goal of mine to snag a game used ball. I have tried many times at MLB games, but have had no luck. However, at a recent Syracuse Chiefs (Triple-A) game, I got tossed one at the end of the 5 inning. I just wanted to thank you for your tips on shagging balls, especially that they can be applied to almost any ballpark. I hope to use your tips for next season!

Sincerely,
Katherine

September 5, 2015

Sup Zack?!

Hey... I just sent you a couple tweets on Twitter so I'm getting back with ya. I totally don't expect you to give up one of your balls, so that's not what I'm asking. Would you be able to hook me up with your auto or somethin? Maybe fanmail address or somethin? I think it's awesome what you're doin. The fact that you gave up arods ball so they could donate to a charity was awesome! I seen an autographed ball you signed with your name and inscribed "BALLS" I thought that was awesome... I do the same thing you do when I go to games... I try my hardest to get as many as I can. I'm nowhere near what you are, but i only go to about 5-10 games a year and I have about 75 baseballs. Not bad considering I guess... So anyways, I wish you the best of luck in your hunt to 10k! Hopefully the email gets to you, and hopefully I can get a Zack Hample autographed sweet spot soon. Thanks for taking your time and reading...

-Dan

September 2, 2015

Zack,

My 10-year-old grandson Jasper was excited to see you in the crowd on Monday evening at the Mets-Phillies game. We assumed that you were just someone who looked like his favorite YouTube guy, but he insisted that it was you. When I took him over to meet you, you were kind enough to let me take this photo. He'd be tickled, I'm sure, if you'd add it to the Photos 2015 section of your website, with a caption like "Jasper and me at Citi Field."

-Tom

September 1, 2015

Hey my name is Payton and I'm 13 years old. I am a big fan of you and I would love a autograph by you. I was wondering if you have a fan mail address and if I sent you something could you send it back signed? Thank you for reading this!!

August 31, 2015

Dear Mr. Hample,

I was at the mets game tonight with my son and a vendor, Sam T., gave us a ball that he said you generously gave him to pass onto my son.

I really appreciate it. It made his night. All the best and shana tova!

-Michael (on behalf of Azi)

August 16, 2015

HI Zack,

My name is Ryan. I am 13 years old. I think you are one of the coolest guys ever. I am about to order your book The Baseball tonight or tomorrow. I am going to use all your ballhawking tips when I go to a Stockton Ports game on August 28. I would use those tips on Tuesday when I may or may not be going to an a's game if the book comes in by then which I doubt it will. I have collected 2 major league balls this season and 2 single A balls this year on May 17 and 18. They are the only pro balls I have gotten in my life. My first major league ball was tossed up by an usher after someone hit a home run between fences down the right field line at the oakland coliseum. Out of my MLB and A balls my favorite was my second A ball where it was after the game I spotted a ball in the camera well no security was in sight so I hopped in and hopped out. It was cool. I read a lot of your blog and I have looked at everything on your website. I think it's cool that you can get all the memorabilia from these games. Good luck on reaching 10,000 balls. Wow!! I can't even dream of getting that many.
Good bye and have fun reaching 10,000.
P.S. I would donate to your charity if I was older and had money.

August 13, 2015

Zack,

I want to thank you for spending time with me and my son, Zach at the Yankees/Indians game in Cleveland on Aug. 12.

It really meant a lot to me that you would talk for so long with my son and it was pretty cool that all the people he asked you about, you had caught a HR ball from. (Tulo, Stanton and Jeter).

His time with you was definitely the highlight of the game for him.

Keep being real and keep loving people.

May God bless you mightily,
Rick and Zach

August 13, 2015

Hello Zack

At least a year ago we had a long talk at the Argosy about baseball. I have two of your books and have read them. You did not get enough credit for writing them in the media firestorm.

I have been very much aware of the publicity generated by your catch of the Alex Rodriguez 3000th hit and home run ball, and have delighted in and approved of your actions. I read that shortly thereafter you attended a game with your mother and were meeting and greeting children at the park.

My son Nathan shares your enthusiasm for baseball and has been a Yankee Stadium ticket holder since 1995. He presently has season tickets (limited packages) at Fenway, Washington and the Brooklyn Cyclones. He has been to 48 major league baseball parks in the US. Lacks the new one in Florida and can't match your trips to Tokyo and Australia. He has two little twin girls, now nearly 3 years old. They have been to baseball games at Yankee Stadium, Citi Field, Washington and the Cyclones.

Whenever they go to a Park Nathan and Missy ask them: "what do you want as a souvenir?" They reply: "a ball."

My question to you is: If you are planning to go to the Yankee game on Wednesday, August 26th would it be possible to arrange a meeting with Nathan and the girls? And possibly sign a ball for them?

-Keith

Zack,

My son wanted to send a special thank you for giving him a ball on Friday night. He slept with the ball and texted all of his friends a picture of the ball. He has wanted to go to a Yankees game for about 3 years now. You made the game extra special for him and we appreciate your generosity very much.

Thank you from Gianni in Pittsburgh!!!!

August 7, 2015

Hi Zack!

Just wanted to let you know that I'm a fan of yours and an even bigger fan of your integrity and decision-making. I truly admire what you did w/ the A Rod ball very much respect the fact that you give baseballs you catch to kids.
I'm an LA kid and Dodger fanatic, but never have much luck snagging baseballs or getting autographs. (cant afford season tickets even though it's the only way to get in early enough for Dodger BP)
Anyways, any tips for ballhawking at Dodger Stadium? I saw your YouTube video, but was hoping there's more to it.

PS: if you're ever back at Dodger Stadium, please feel free to email me as I'd be happy to get your book signed.

sincerely,
Bill

August 4, 2015

Dear Zack,

I just wanted to say that I think what you do is incredible. I notice how much effort you put in to catching baseballs from your accomplishments you have done in the past. I enjoy your YouTube channel because you are always looking on the field, being ready for the next hit. I am a kid who loves baseball just like you and I hope I can have the same passion as you do when I grow up. I love going to Red Sox games, (even though they are not that good this year), and I hope I can meet you in person some day at a game in the future. You inspire me to go to BP before games. Thank you and I hope you reach 10,000 balls soon.

Sincerely,
Mr. Baseball

July 24, 2015

Hey Zack,

I recently stumbled along your Twitter and saw some of the hate mail you have received. I am not the biggest baseball fan but am shocked by how many nasty emails you must receive daily and the severity of those emails. Just wanted to let you know you have a new fan! I really don't understand what is such a big deal about you keeping baseballs that you value more than others (a-rods home run ball for example) First of all he is not entitled nor the Yankees to that ball. Yes it would be a kind gesture to give it to them, but nothing states that you are required to. Also I really am impressed by the charity work you have done and continue to do. You seem like a genuine caring person regardless of what some ignorant folks may say. No need to respond to me just hope I would brighten up your day a little! Keep on trucking big guy!

-John

July 24, 2015

Zack:

I don’t even know where to start!

First of all, congratulations on snagging A-rods 3,000th hit! Just for the record, he has been one of my favorite players since he was with the Mariners and I was just a kid, I’m 26 now. I won’t go into detail about a-rod. I know we all have our own opinions on the guy but I will say he’s human, and we all make mistakes. I’m a die-hard Yankees fan and I am from Texas. I go to NY about once a year to see the Yankees play in Yankee Stadium and see them every chance I get when they are in Texas. I’ve been a Yankees fan since I was a kid so you can imagine how lucky I think you are for not only being able to go to a Yankees game whenever you want, but for catching a milestone home-run/hit from one of the Yankee Greats! And receiving everything the Yankees provided for the ball. I hope you appreciate it as much as I would. Thanks for doing the right thing and giving the ball back. He’s a family man and I’m sure his daughters really appreciate that.

To be honest, I didn’t know who you were until you caught the ball. I remember seeing a few of your interviews and thinking, “who the F does this guy think he is!” But as I did more research on who you were and time went on I realized you were a good guy just trying to do the right thing for everyone involved. It was a huge decision to make from multiple angles.

I am a huge baseball fan. I love baseball. I played baseball all my life and was pretty good at it. I made the varsity team my freshman year in H.S. and was the starting 2nd baseman. I am very passionate about the sport.

Someone once told me, it doesn’t matter what you do in life, just try to be the best at whatever it is you do.

Well, I’m an investigator working at a personal injury law firm with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, but I’m not the best at that I do….yet. You my friend, are the best at what you do and you should be proud of that. I’ve been to many baseball games and I know and understand that ball hawking is truly an art. But, it’s not just ball hawking that you do. It’s what you do with your ball hawking skills that is impressive like the money you donate and raise for Pitch In For Baseball. Continue doing what you do! God knew exactly what he was doing when a-rod’s ball came flying in your direction.

Please let me know when you plan on coming to Texas for an Astros or Rangers game. I would like to possibly meet you and talk baseball. I enjoy discussing and talking baseball with individuals that understand and appreciate the sport.

I’ve been to many games and about 6 or 7 World Series games and I have to say that the best baseball game that I have ever attended was last year when Jeter got his final walk off hit at Yankee Stadium. Just thinking about it still gives me chills.

Anyway, I wont take much more of your time. I know you are a busy guy these days. I just wanted to congratulate you and thank you for all you do for the game of baseball and the game I love.

-Nestor

July 24, 2015

Hey Zack,
My name is Viktor. A few years ago, I was about to head to a game in Tampa ( I live in ft. Myers, Fl) and I had always tried to catch foul balls but it never happened. So I did a quick search and found your blog! That game I got my first MLB ball! ( Toss up from Rick Porcello). This upcoming Monday I will be heading back to Tampa in search for my 100th ball! I have read every single blog for the past 3 years, and I get excited when you post a new one! You have Truly changed my love for baseball for the best! It pains me to see all the hate mail you receive, I think it's just because they are jealous they could never get a ball themselves. Lol. Keep doing you and get to 10,000 lifetime! I'm only 16 so maybe I can catch up to you!
The best of luck,
Viktor

Zack:

I hope you are doing well. Those scratches must be bothering you. Anyways I want to say I've been getting so many different opinions I don't know what to believe or know. What I do know is your story and it is truly amazing. I find yourself as a guy who is just living life to the fullest with no regrets and I love it. Reading your tweets and seeing you eat all the negative comments is simply amazing. You inspire me and I guess I could say you are a hero.

Maybe we can hook up at a game preferably citi field because I'm a huge mets fan.

Thanks

-Steven M.

July 22, 2015

Dear Mr. Hample,
Hello my name is Caleb and I am a giant fan of yours. I've read all of your blogs, books, and watched all your videos. My most prized ball is a Jose Bautista BP ball. I'm still working on my collection but I also collect minor league balls. I'm hoping to extend my collection when I go to pnc park on August 7. The reason I emailed you was because I was just watching the Orioles @ Yankees and when Ryan Flaherty hit a 2 run shot I paused the TV jumped up and screamed hey that's Zack hample! I instantly recognized it was you and wanted to congratulate you on your fine piece of baseball history. If there's any tips that you have about pnc park I'd be happy to know.
Thanks so much!
Yours truly,
Caleb

Hi Zack,

My name is Jake and I am a huge fan of your blog. I've been reading for the past three month and i have got to say that you are the man! I live in Minnesota and try to catch balls at (the insanely frustrating) Target field. Altough my personal friendship with Brian Dozier has made it very easy. I once snagged 15 baseballs at one twins game. If you are ever back in Minnesota, i would love to watch a game with you

Thanks for the great read,
Jake

July 20, 2015

Hey Zack,

First off let me say this, I feel like a "Hample Hipster" in that I had found out about you a little while before this A-rod business has happened and every time I hear or see something about you I think in my head: "psh I knew about him way before you did!" (which isn't very cool of me). I gotta say man, I've been lurking these past few weeks and really going back and forth about the whole ball thing, all the while having no idea what I would do with it. I haven't been going back and forth about you being an ass because I know it's not like that and you're not like that (I'll get to that in a bit) but there were so many arguments both ways that were convincing. In the end I think you got it right. I envy you dude, with all the memorabilia and also that sick donation, it's all awesome. As a Tigers fan I would have given my right arm to receive the things you did.

I love baseball, as a young boy I dreamed of spending my days at the ball park but getting baseballs at a stadium seemed so farfetched, I never thought it was possible... Fast forward 10 or so years and I am now 23 and being bored at my internship I stumbled across your name and all of your accomplishments. I spent hours looking up all your collections, experiences, records, etc. It got to the point where I thought "I need to at least try this for myself, I dont know if I can be as dedicated but lets give it a shot!" So I purchased your book, and boy did it make a world of difference. I now live near Detroit (30 mins compared to 2 hours where I grew up) and I have been to 7 games thus far and I have caught 14 balls. Haven't been to a game without a ball! I gotta hand it to you man, your tips work again and again. My favorite is being first in line and running to the OF sections and finding balls just laying there. I do my best to give balls to kids whenever the opportunity arises. Regardless of what keyboard bullies say, man, you're a role model. Now I'm not saying "ALL BOW DOWN TO HAMPLE" because it's not like that. You're a guy following his passion and continuing his collection, it just so happens that you're the best at what you do. When you're the best, there is always going to be those who can't or will not appreciate the effort. After experiencing a small fraction of the effort of what you do, man, I gotta tell ya, you deserve a ton of credit. I think you're handling this negative feedback correctly. You are proving (in the best and most effective way possible) that you're not a monster. Like I said before I 100% appreciate everything you have done.

I haven't introduced myself, my name is Chris. I am from Michigan, grew up a hardcore Tigers fan. I don't expect you to get back to this for a little while especially after following your blog and seeing how swamped you are. Honestly with everything on your plate I don't expect anything back, but I think it would be cool to hear from you. If you do get around to getting back to me, please let me know the next time you will be in Detroit. I would be very interested in going to a game with you (Although, with your recent popularity I could see it being a crowd of us following you for baseballs) let me know your rates or whatever you request to sit and chat with you.

Thanks for your time, and keep hawking

-Chris

July 11, 2015

Hey Zack. I'm a 12 year old kid from Boston, my name is Dennis, and I'd honestly like to meet you in person and maybe go to a Red Sox game with you. I'm a fan of yours and it amazes me how many baseballs you've gotten. So maybe you can plan a trip to a Red Sox game one day?

July 9, 2015

Zack,

I didn't really hear about you before Arod's 3000th hit but I wanted to express how much interest you brought to me. After hearing the media and others scrutinize you for keeping the ball originally, I grew to believe them. After doing some research and watching your YouTube videos I have realized you are truly a great person and I really thank you for you efforts to charity. You inspired me to gain an interest on MLB baseballs and I respect your extraordinary collection. Thank you and keep doing what you are doing for Pitch in For Baseball.

P.S. I probably would have taken about a million for the arod ball.

-Colin

Hey Zack,
Im a big fan of yours, and I will be back east for the month of July. I was wondering if you had any dates of any Yankees, Mets, or Red sox games you were planning on attending. (Being a big fan, it would be cool to say hi, and take a photo with you)
P.S. Congrats on a-rod's 3,000!
Thanks,
Joe

Hey Zack!

My dad and I met you at a Mets Braves game about 4 weeks ago at Citi Field. I am a big fan of yours and have read your latest book. My family was in the city last week and we went to Argosy Bookstore to see if you were around. Of course with all the A-Rod ball hype your coworkers said you weren't in. However we are going to the city tonight and were wondering if you would have a minute because I would love to have you sign my book. I understand you are a very busy man but if you're around and have a minute let me know and maybe we can meet up somewhere convenient.

Thanks,
Mike

Can you film more at the games you go to? and I want to know where to stand when a batter in bp is their first time. I'm ordering every mlb cap because I bought my self season tickets for the Rangers. My name is Jack and I'm 12 years old and you changed going to a baseball game for me. And I thank you.

July 7, 2015

Hey Zack, My name is Luke from Winchester, Virginia and I'm 14 years old. I love to snag baseballs and I'm a really big fan of yours. I have been to about 25 games this year. I usually go to the Nationals games. This year I have 70 baseballs and counting. I have been getting baseballs since I was 7 years old and I have about 2,000 baseballs. My best balls I have caught was a game ball (foul ball) by Ryan Zimmerman in the inaugural season of the new nationals stadium. I also congratulate you on catching A-Rods 3,000 career hit. And I would love to meet you sometime at a game or something.

Sincerely,
Luke

P.S. Keep snagging balls

July 7, 2015

hey zack, im a huge fan from the Dominican Republic, ive been watching your videos for a while now, and i love your work. i was thinking that maybe u should come to the dominican republic when the winter league starts here (october); that way u could visit some stadiums here, and maybe we could go ballhawk together.
im hoping u see my email and that u like the idea

regards,
Eduardo

July 6, 2015

Hey Zack! My name is Sam and I love trying to get baseballs as well but obviously I don't have nearly as many as you do! I was thinking and thought it would be cool to meet you at a Twins game since I live in Minnesota and I know you travel a lot. If you are coming to target field this year it would be awesome if you could let me know! It would be an honor to hang out with you for a game. If you email me back that would be awesome! Thanks!

July 6, 2015

Dear Zack: I saw that you did give A-Rod’s the ball he hit marking number 3000. I was very pleased to watch the press conference. I am sure the Pitch in for Baseball Charity was more than thrilled by the Yankee’s very generous donation of $150,000. A-Rod was very cool the way he handled the question about your initial tweet. He took the focus away from you and put on himself and the less then temperate remarks he has made over the years. I am sure PIFB, is also quite happy that Hal Steinbrenner and the Yankees intend to develop a continuing relationship with their charity.

So, true to my word and following your lead, I made a donation to Pitch in for Baseball today.

Sincerely,
Karen

I must admit I thought you were being a jerk by not giving up the ball initially but after reading your blog I can see why you played it the way you did, even if you kept the buck fifty yourself who could blame you especially when you've got athletes making ludicrous amounts of money. Even if he bought it himself it would be less than a half week's wages for Arod.

More kids should get to play ball because of your selflessness and in the end that benefits everybody with an interest in the game.

I remember his comment about you not being like the Jeter guy or "where was the Jeter guy when you need him". That just came off as self-entitled to me. I don't know if he seemed genuine in the press conference or not, but that ball is no longer his once he hits it into the stadium. It's also kind of creepy for the Yanks to send some burly ex-cop packing heat after fans with HR balls. I'm a fan of the team and tradition but the organization looks out for its fans about as much as a drug dealer does when a client OD's.

Hey Zack,

Had a great time watching you on tv present a-rod his 3,000 hit. You are one of my role models and I would kill to just watch a game with you. I know you probably don't care much to reply but I know your a good person and what you did was a great thing.

-David

Hey Zack,

My name is Liam. I am a ballhawk that goes to Phillies games. I want to congratulate you on catching A-Rods 3,000 hit. But i also want to thank you for doing what you do for Major League Baseball (like pitch in for baseball). I have been a fan of yours since 2007. I love reading your books, blogs, and tweets. You are the reason why fans get more engaged with the game of baseball. Snagging and catching home run balls makes the game worth it to attend. I was just wondering when you plan on heading to Philly next. I would like to meet you and get your autograph.

Thank You,
Liam

Hi,

I saw my husband googled your website after you gave Alex Rodriguez your baseball of his 3000th hit. Looking at your entries made my day. They are candid, honest, and sweet. Thanks for your life story.

It's cool to have seen you grow up. Perfect amount of entries too. Not too many to be overwhelming.
Congrats on your big score for your charity.

Thanks you again for sharing your stories and am looking forward to more.

-Alison

Hello Zack,
Just wanted to reach out to you to Congratulate you for your recent donation as a result of the Alex ball you caught at Yankee Stadium. Good for you!!!!!

You're probably wondering who I am. My name is Lita Dior. My husband Jerry Dior designed the MLB logo in 1968. I know that you and he were in touch a few years ago when he sent you a signed MLB logo.

I'm sad to have to share that Jerry passed away on May 10th. I know that if he saw you as I did last night on TV, he would have applauded what you were able to do that is so charitable. I miss him beyond any words I can adequately express and I saw that you were wearing a hat
with that MLB logo as you were filmed. I felt that I had to reach out to you.

Be well and safe.
Warm regards,
Lita Dior

Zack,

I have been following the story of you catching the ARod ball. In fact, I watched quite a few of your YouTube videos (even as far back as the Rosie O'Donnell show, haha) just to see you in action. I live in SC, so plan to use your tips to attempt to catch at least one next time we go to Turner Field (hopefully to see the Cubs...GO CUBS!!!).

I just want to commend you on how you have handled the situation. Getting money from charity and some special treats from the Yankees definitely shows the two things that you are most passionate about (helping others and baseball). Keep doing your thing and staying true to yourself (glad to see you are not letting the outside 'noise' get to you).

Great job!

-Josh

apologies to you as I recently read the charity effort....it appears you are quite the opposite of "dirtbag"....just my enthusiasm as a yankee fan of 60 plus years....Neil

Hey Zack!
I'm not sure if you remember me but I'm Alejandro. We meet about 7 years ago at a Marlins game trying to catch Ken Griffey Jr's 600th home run ball. I was 8 at the time and I remember being you self-proclaimed #1 fan! I remember always watching your videos and reading your blogs and messaging you from time to time and when we meet I had a sign with your name written on it and had brought your first book as well. Well I'm 15 now and haven't talked to you in a while and just recently heard that you caught Alex Rodriguez's 3,000th hit! I just wanted to say congratulations cause I know how amazing that is for you. I also heard that you exchanged it in for a $150,000 donation to pitch in for baseball which is also great and I would like to congratulate you on that too. I just wanted to congratulate you on your catch and any other successes you've had in the past 7 years and also just say hi because it's been a while. Well good luck in anything else life throws as you!

Sincerely,
"You're #1 Fan" Alejandro

July 3, 2015

Mr. Hample,

We just read your tweet about the A-Rod ball. We are from Seattle, and so never discuss A-Rod in these parts. But, you made our day donating your $ for the 3K ball to your favorite charity, "Pitch In For Baseball". Now, that's a home run! While we didn't do a matching donation, since we love baseball(we have been to 15 of the MLB parks), and baseball is the quintessential all-American game, and it is the 4th of July…..we just posted $25 to the same organization.

Your website with all the photos is just fabulous, what a zest for life you have; and your MLB blog is full of such detail, like we are all right there in the moment.
Have a beautiful baseball summer…..and may the Mariner's win the World Series, or in our case, just have a winning season. We cannot believe it has been 13 years since the M's have been to the playoffs….ugh!

How many times have you been to Cooperstown? We loved our time there.
Any other baseball iconic sites/museums we should visit?

When in Seattle next, look us up, we would love to treat you to a game / tour of the city(we live in a suburb).

Tom & Diane

Congratulations on securing the donation to Pitch In For Baseball. Well played.

I enjoyed your website. You seem an interesting and honest and principled guy.

Hope you catch many more. Good luck.

July 3, 2015

Two weeks ago, i never heard of Zack Hample, today, thanks to the power of google, i feel i've gotten to know a kindred spirit. If nothing else, it's clear we share a true love, -the greatest game ever invented. From what i've read, even before the A-Rod ball, Zack's been living a life i could only be wildly envious of, from the family book store to Yankee stadium, and all parks in between, not to mention the power one must feel when a ball off the bat of a major-leager smacks the leather, spending hours shagging fly balls anywhere, let alone a major league ball park, is a blissful life i could only dream of!.. Obsession is often looked on in a negative light, but any man who understands passion, also understands some degree of obsession. A conscious man knows how to let amazing things happen through obsession, this is just one more example to add to history. Congratulations Zack!- No one deserved it more than you!..

Secondly, i want to commend you on the way you have carried yourself throughout this ride in the spot light, I've listened to a number of interviews, read much of what has been written, good and bad, as well as much of what you've written, and i'll say that your class and intelligence displayed is only second to your genuine love and enthusiasm for the game. I'm guessing the last week has been as nerve wracking as it has been incredible, and from what i've witnessed, you've handled it all with the same attention and clarity as i'm sure you do when shagging fly balls.

On a personal note, as stated, i love very little as much as i love the game, to me, baseball is life, always has been, since my first memory, my mitt goes everywhere with me, (in the truck), i can talk ball till your ear falls off, and play catch till my arm falls off,. Maybe that's why it saddens me so to see how baseball, like all pro sports, has been, IMO, degenerated. Notwithstanding the "A-Roid", fiasco, i've seen how the integrity and respect for the game has taken a back seat to the commercial side, and in all honesty, the side show, pretence and what seems to be annual controversy irk me so much, that i am only able to stomach games on the radio, in the back ground, or i spend Saturday nights on Youtube, watching clips of Bob Feller, Ted Williams, or Walter Johnson, while flipping to Baseball ref. to learn something new. I'm 10 years older than you Zack, and like you, i've never had a favourite team, preferring to follow individual players and situations, but if pressured i'd say the Reds of the 70's, the big Red Machine, and yes, Pete Rose was my hero, and that's all i'll say about that..:(

So, in conclusion, if you asked me what to do with that ball, i'd suggest this Zack: how about a campaign of donations for your charity, by anyone who wants to see that ball thrown in the hudson!- i'd start that list myself!

Here's to you Zack!- so glad you were at that game!!

much regards and much good will your way, and thank's very kindly for sharing so much with everyone, and especially for making my week!
Sincerely, your new and devoted fan,
francis..:))

July 3, 2015

Oh cool you know your pretty cool yourself. Sorry if I sound hard coming to you I was kinda mad at the time. In fact one of my friend was two seats away from you when you caught the ball. He got the whole thing on Video. I believe you a season ticket holder of the Yankees and I going to a game soon I haven't picked out where I going to sit so if you want to tell me where you have ticket maybe I can find a seat near you. Anyways thanks for considering to give the ball back. Sorry again that I called you a jerk I was kinda angry at the time. Thanks for writing back though. -Joseph P.S can you send me a pic of the ball.

July 3, 2015

I went to MCU Park last week and unfortunately batting practice was rained out but I was able to use the glove trick to get a ball from the bullpen and security didn't say anything. (I know you don't count minor league balls in your collection but I got my first three balls that night. Thanks for the tricks, Zack.)

-Aaron

July 3, 2015

Zack,

I completely agree with you here and respect the decision not to give the ball back. That ball is an instant piece of history. To be honest, you don't owe A-Rod shit. You've been a fan and you've bought tickets to go see him and it's because of people like you that he has a career. Just do you and don't let these ass holes tell you what to do.

-Peter

July 3, 2015

HOLY SMOKES CONGRATS!

I’ve been a "silent" reader for a long, long time, and just wanted to toss my congrats in on getting the Arod ball. Was watching the game on MLB.TV from Omaha and when i saw you in the mix out in the stands, all I could think of was "yep, obviously". Lol.

Anyway, I know its not your style, but you should seriously think about having the Yankees ask Arod for his best bid for the ball, and then splitting that with pitch in for baseball, and keep the rest yourself. There is nothing wrong with profiting off a multi-millionaire for something they really want, especially one as disgusting as Arod. If you're worried about bad PR, it would die down in a matter of days, and would all be driven by jealousy anyway. 99% of Yankee fans would do the same.

At the end of the day I'm sure you'll do whatever is best, but I'd be lying if I said a little part of me didn't want to see Arod fork over some money for that thing...

-Ryan

July 3, 2015

Good job Zack,

The first thing I thought when I saw A-rod hit the home run was that u I had a chance at it and I was right. You better keep that ball!!! Only 29 3,000th hit balls and only three were home runs! Two of which in the last 5 years. You have been so lucky to catch all these milestone home runs its crazy. Thank you for sharing it with your loyal subscribers at mlbblogs. It has been amazing to follow your incredible ball hawking journey.

July 2, 2015

Right on, Zack!! I was playing a gig w/ one of my bands and we were about to start when I looked up at the tv and saw your face smiling for the camera. I literally yelled, ‘HEY…I know that guy…that’s Zack!!!’. My wife turned and was able to catch a glimpse and asked, ‘Is that the guy you and Kyle (my son) were going to go watch catch the ball from the helicopter?’ LOL! Then I realized *why* you were on tv and I was so giddy with excitement! Hehe. It’s been awesome watching you make every *correct’ decision, in my opinion, that you’ve made regarding the ball. So many people I know have tried to bash you for keeping the ball and I lay out your reasons to them on why you’re holding onto it and I’m able to change their mind… Excited to see what you decide in the end…even if it’s keeping the ball.

-Brian

July 2, 2015

Dear Zack,
To me it’s just mind boggling that the amount of success you have had over the years with so many great snags, i just wanted to say thank you for being an inspiration for me to take up ballhawking and all your tips from your blog (and A+ books) have helped me become way better. I am very glad that my dad and I got to meet you back in 2013, now I can say that I've met a "celebrity" before. Back then, me and my dad were at a lifetime total of 113 over 6 years, and now in two years, we have doubled it, and at the moment we are at 358 lifetime snags, good enough for 32nd overall on mygameballs. Well, major congrats on this snag, and I wonder what your next big catch might be. What can possibly top this? Who knows? That's the fun of snagging.

Cheers,
Angel from Houston

July 2, 2015

Hi Zack – Congrats! My humble opinion is for you to do exactly what you’re doing: take your time, figure out what’s important to you, find some ideas that would fulfill those things and do them. Maybe it’s simply hanging onto the ball and passing it down to a future son or daughter. Maybe it’s monetizing it in some way to benefit yourself and/or others. Maybe it’s using it to generate publicity for yourself or causes that you feel strongly about.

Whatever you decide, I truly feel that the desires of MLB or the player should NOT be a factor in your decision. As a fan who’s given all kinds of time, energy and money to MLB through the years by simply attending games, buying food, drinks and parking, and also by watching and listening to games on TV and radio, I’ve come to accept the fact that in the eyes of MLB, I am simply a vehicle for generating more and more revenue.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the game of baseball and the MLB product, and will continue to watch and spend money. However, the simple fact that MLB gets what they want from me (my money — often begrudgingly, esp. when buying food or drink at the stadium), gives me enough reason to conclude that we as fans should get what we want from MLB when we are given that opportunity.

And, you, Zack, have been given (maybe I should say ‘earned’ because I know how much you work at it) a fabulous opportunity. So, enjoy it!

-Jeff H.

July 2, 2015

Hey zack,
I've been following you and your record since August 2013 when I met you in Atlanta. I was at a Braves and Rockies game and you were sitting next to me and we discussed your black eye and how I got my face smashed by a ball. Anyways I was wondering if you were gonna be in Boston any time this summer on in Houston (July 22-24) cause I would love to meet up with you again and pick your brain on catching baseballs. I myself have 14 total baseballs but I'm also only 15. Anyways if you could let me know that would be great!!

Sincerely,
Paul

July 1, 2015

I've enjoyed reading the various takes on the story. It's odd that somehow some writers make you out to be the bad guy in a story about ALEX RODRIGUEZ. But you're 100% right. Make them give a HUGE donation to charity for the ball.

And of course you caught it. I'm surprised whenever you DON'T catch a milestone.

-Will

June 30, 2015

Hello Zack Hample. I love watching your videos on YouTube. You inspire me. I have seen you use your glove trick before. I am going to an Atlanta Braves game soon and was wondering which one is easier to use there, the glove trick or the cup trick. How do I make the cup trick?

Thanks,
Alan

June 30, 2015

Congrats on getting A Rod's #3,000! I was recording it on my iPhone, being a life long Yankee fan and all. I knew you when I saw your face.

I am glad that it went into the stands! I am not one of those blind Yankee fans who feels ARod deserves it. I think you are right that ARod doesn't deserve to have the slate wiped clean just because he's "sorry". Do with it what you will. You've earned that right.

I have a graphic design business, so if you ever need any pro bono design work for Pitch in for Baseball, it would be my pleasure. I think your ability to share your love of the game is fantastic. My two little ones love to play and love the Yankees, so as a father, thank you for reaching out and helping others get the opportunity to play and enjoy the game.

Again, Congratulations and here's hoping that if A Rod breaks anymore records, that it is your glove that finds the ball.

-Scott

June 29, 2015

I know you probably won't get around to seeing this email, but just wanted to give you my thoughts on the whole situation. And of course, this is pretty late but better late than never. Just a sidenote, but I follow you on Twitter and I like how you acknowledge some of the anecdotes of others' stories about your positive influence, but I'd probably prefer if you didn't post a picture of this email if you see it, just for certain reasons haha.

After learning on ESPN that you had snagged A-Rod's ball and had collected 8k + prior balls, I was naturally shocked. And so I looked you up on Twitter and read some of the initial comments people had. I admit, I had formed an opinion of you by just reading the tweets that mentioned your hostility towards other fans...but I knew that it'd be totally unfair to form prejudices of others based on others' comments.

Looking at your Youtube Channel as well as other previous news videos featuring you, I quickly came to the realization that you had been doing this for a ton of years (well, I mean obviously based on your 8k balls but this was a further testament of your dedication to baseball) and this was your passion; I definitely would go to more baseball games if I could, and what you've done has definitely been inspiring. I then looked at some of your videos and saw that instead of wrestling with other kids for balls, you actually gave a significant chunk of your BP balls to other kids. Naturally in the comments, there were swaths of people mentioning all of the negative qualities ascribed to you and how you were being "selfish" or a "jerk", etc. And then...I looked at your charity prize drawing video where you mentioned your charity among many of the other positive, influential things you've provided to society. I was naturally shocked to see only 1 comment and it had nothing to do with the A-Rod ball. This all leads to my point, I guess, that society tends to judge things based on a rumor a few people may have spread. And I think the key issue is jealousy and the fact that others will never be able to live a life as passionate as yours has been. Despite my initial reaction that a fan who "pushed" other children for balls should not deserve the A-Rod ball, I came to realize that you probably were the most fitting person to snag that ball: someone who passionately pursues his own dreams, who helps around his family, and who helps others around.

So keep doing what you do and never stop to change what you're doing based on what haters say. All everyone wants is attention and people are just jealous that you have it right now...but the thing is, the attention is deserved. Your charity and other help towards society has provided many with the opportunity to pursue endeavors they never had the chance to. Do what you feel is best for both A-Rod and yourself with the ball. Who knows? Maybe I'll even meet you at a game sometime; but regardless, you have made another true fan of baseball and LIFE, unlike others who are jealous of your success.

-Charles

June 29, 2015

Zack,

I wanted to purchase one or a few of your books. However, I am not sure which ones to purchase. I wanted to buy the one on how to snag MLB baseballs but saw that it was being sold for a lot of money. So I was wondering if it is worth purchasing or if another one or both of the other books you have written would be better options? If you suggest both which one is better if I am trying to find one like the one on how to snag MLB baseballs and want to learn how to catch MLB baseballs as well as the specifics of it? Also, congratulations on catching all of the baseballs you have caught up to this point and especially A-Rod's 3000th career hit. I want to be able to do the same thing as you someday with catching all of the baseballs that you have caught.

Thank you,
Brendan

June 28, 2015

Hey Zack, I read your blogs all the time, I'm 12 and I wanted to let you know that at Minute Maid Park in Houston, they have 50th anniversary of the Astrodome commemorative baseballs. They look epic and I thought you'd like to have a couple of them. I'm gonna try to snag some of them this year. Your blogs are epic!

June 27, 2015

Hey Zack,

We haven't talked in a while lol. A lot has gone on since we have talked. First, CONGRATS ON THE BALL!!!! I'm 100% supporting your decision. You don't owe AROD jack shit! I feel so bad for you for all of the shit that you are getting. It makes me even more sad when people say terrible shit to you like "he pushes kids and adults for baseballs". I KNOW that the things that they say isnt true and it makes me so sad/mad. I posted something about you on my autograph instagram and people gave you and ME so much shit. Even my fuckin friends were saying "Zack is an asshole and a loser and why are u friends with someone who has such a lame hobby by collecting baseballs like thats sad". MY FRIENDS SAID THAT WHO HAVEN'T EVEN MET YOU! EVEN WILLIAM (the guy who you talked to at the Yankee game 2 days before the AROD shit and u signed his book) WAS LIKE "I FEEL BAD FOR AROD ZACK IS TERRIBLE FOR DOING THAT" and i was like "FUCK AROD he doesnt deserve shit he fuckin cheated". I got ONE person who is this 40 year old autograph collector and he was like "I'm believing you about all you say about zack he doesnt need to give it back and he doesnt push kids and stuff." I was so happy someone was nice to me and you about it. He told me to tell you that he is supporting you 100% on your decision. and I am also. I feel like people who are saying the mean stuff are jealous af (as fuck). I cannot stand Bald Vinny now. Anyway I'm going to a minor league game on Wednesday and I cant wait. I *might* be going to the Mets Dodgers game on July 23rd but i'll find more information about that soon. I'm going to L.A. on the 10th so I cant wait for that also. Im sorry this is so long but i felt like telling you a lot of information.

Congrats on the 7000+ more twitter followers lol

Hope to see you soon

-Jonathan

Hi Mr. Hample,

I absolutely love your work, have read all your books and stay active on your blog.

Congratulations on catching a-rods 3,000 hit, that has to be very exciting and difficult at the same time.

Similar to you, I do collect baseballs and I would love to add an autographed baseball of you to my personal collection. not going to lie, but it would be cool if Lisa Ann could sign as well, lol... but that is not what I am requesting. just read your recent blogpost, which was awesome! way to keep the streak alive!

not sure if you would be willing to, but I could pay via PayPal or make a charitable contribution to pitch in for baseball for your troubles.

no worries either way, and good luck with your decision.

best wishes,
Tom

June 27, 2015

Hey Zack, I would just like to start of by saying how real you have been. I've been a Yankees fan all of my life since I met Joe Girardi when I was 3 because he grew up in my hometown. I live in Central Illinois and for me attending Yankees is a dream. I've attended 3 in my life but they pinstripes rarely come to Illinois. But once I heard about you catching the ball I thought to myself why is he not giving the ball back?!?! But then I thought what would I do? And then realized you are doing what everyone should. Thinking about it so you make the right decision. And all this hate you are getting is absolutely ridiculous. And you being able to handle that is amazing. I know your life has changed now and you probably get emails like this a lot now. But I want you to know what you've shown me. You have become a role model by catching a ball. And that's kind of crazy but, stay you Zack you're awesome.

P.S.
I've often dreamt of getting an MLB ball but have never been close. I guess I need to read your book, but the local Barnes and Noble doesn't have it. Which is quite upsetting. So if you would be even more awesome as to send me one of your 8,000 balls or a book I'd go wild.

Best of Luck.

Hey Zack how have you been, you probably don't remember me but my name is jack and I've always been a huge fan of yours and I met you 3 years ago which explains the picture of me in your blog. I just wanted to congratulate you on catching A-rod's 3,000th hit and as far as keeping the ball or selling it back, do what you want to and don't take anyone else's word. I couldn't believe the hate and harsh words people were giving you and I think it's quite heistarical. I saw you on the news which is how I found out about it and I immediately wanted to email you. I'm also finally going to games again and I'll be back at citizens bank park this Tuesday, June 30th so if you're gonna be down let me know and we'll meet up. I'm planning on snagging at least 5 balls lol!

Let's start off with, I support you. Keep the ball as long as you want dude. The ball ended up in your hands for a reason. And to the people saying A-Roid worked so hard for it; he didn't work too hard, he cheated. You keep doing you dude. Know this is gotta be hard on you. Take care!

Hello Mr. Hample,

My name is Gavriel I am a huge sports fan. I am an aspiring journalist/sports announcer. I am a 9/10th grader at in Lawrence New York, where I write for the school newspaper. I had two of my articles written in it published in the local newspapers. The reason I am emailing you today is because I would like to interview you. You would be helping me out alot. Like I said I would like to be a journalist/sports announcer and this would help me out in the future. Plus it would be cool to meet someone who snags baseballs which is very interesting to me. (I caught one ball at batting practice at citi field last year.) As I said I'm an aspiring journalist so when I was thinking of doing an interview with someone, I thought of you. It probably won't be for a while because I do this with friends and because they go to camp. And two; I'd love to do it as a 'Watch with Zack' and their are not many days during the summer in which I can do it. I'm a huge fan of your work!

Thank you,
Gavriel

June 26, 2015

It is not ARODS ball! It is yours! I don’t remember MLB asking for their foul balls and home runs back every game. BE A STAND UP GUY AND TELL A ROD HE CAN HAVE IT BACK FOR A YEAR'S WORTH OF HIS SALARY NOTHING LESS. THE GUY IS A DOUCHE BAG WHO NOT ONLY CHEATED BASEBALL BUT WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT HAD THE NERVE TO LIE TO ALL OF US FOR SO LONG ABOUT IT.

-Joshua

June 26, 2015

Wow Zack! I cannot believe you caught the ball. Props to you man. You have so much luck on your side in terms of ballhawking. Don't listen to all of the haters out there. You've never sold a ball before, so why start now? Don't let the yankees bully you into giving a ball back like they've done before. Keep it for yourself, and enjoy it as your crown jewel of your collection instead of in Aroid's. He should regret he hit it to you instead of some clueless fan. Hold your ground man!

-Nick G.

June 25, 2015

Hey Mr. Hample. I just got your book "How to Snag Major League Baseballs" and I was wondering if you have any advice on the best place to go at Camden Yard during BP to get balls. I know you are super busy and super stressed out so no worries if you can't get back to me soon. I'm going August 18th to a game with The 7 Line Army (have you heard of them?) at Camden Yard and if you could get back to me by then that would be great.

Also, keep the ball. A-Rod has done nothing to benefit you or anyone else besides himself. He doesn't deserve it. I'm only a 13 year old kid going into 9th grade, but even I know that A-Rod is a bad guy. Ignore the hate and keep doing what you do. Good luck!

Best wishes,
Sean

June 25, 2015

Best of luck with the ball. Don't let the haters and the dissers get you down. It's real easy for someone to get on TV and pontificate about what they would do with the ball when they are not the one who caught it. I am vicariously thrilled for you.

June 25, 2015

Zack,
I have recently seen you at multiple Yankees gams this year and last. We have spoken before and I saluted you on Tuesday night while leaving in the ninth inning during the Yankees/Phillies game. It's pretty amazing what you have been able to do with your baseball collection. I have had my fair share of BP and in game baseballs, but only one home run ball. Paul Konerko in the last visiting team home run in the old Yankees stadium. Anyway, I am emailing you to tell you that I really respect and like what you have done with the A-Rod ball. Bringing charity in it has been a great idea and not rushing a decision on it was also very bright. The publicity you've gotten has been great! Anyway, I write for a website called doublegsports.com. I am really trying to break the story when you make the decision on what you're going to do with the ball to maybe get some publicity to my name as a writer. I was wondering if you could maybe shoot me a text or email me back when you make your decision so I can break the story? If not it's not a big deal I totally respect you and your collection. I have seen you give baseballs to kids and I will never show you hate like the other crazy fans.

Any way I look forward to hearing back from you and congratulations!!

-Charles

June 24, 2015

Hi Zack,

First off, you spell your name wrong but i can look past that.

I had a couple of questions for you. What are you requesting from the Yankees other than the charity contribution?

Second of all.... Can you request for lifetime season tickets to the LA Clippers for me? Perfect thanks.

On a serious note, love the comment that a-rod doesn't need a fan to do him a favor. Keep keeping it real.

Cheers!

--A fellow Zac

June 23, 2015

First off let me say congrats on catching the ball. What ever you end up doing with it should benefit you and no one else. If that's to keep it on your mantle or to trade it for something you desire it is totally your call.

I noticed you don't have a favorite sports team and you usually wear a generic hat. I have been working and designing in the world of professional sports for over 17 years. Would you ever want a personalized Logo for yourself. Even a simple ZH style logo. Every good ball player needs a logo.

Best of luck with what ever you do with the ball and in your future.

-Rusty

June 23, 2015

Hey Zack!
Congratulations on catching A Rod's 3000th man! If you remember me, we spoke for about 15 minutes towards the end of batting practice that game, just before A Rod got his hit. My name is Will Burditt, and you said that you would give me a shout-out in your blog or one of your interviews if A Rod got his 3000th his and you caught it. It would be awesome if you could do that. It was amazing talking to you before the game, and then seeing you on ESPN and SportsCenter and being a national celebrity just minutes later. You were so friendly, and I hope to see you at another game in the future. It would be awesome if you could mention me in your blog or one of your interviews, since we talked about catching the 3000th hit, and you actually did!

Thanks and hope to see you sometime in the future!
Will

PS. Don't worry about everyone heckling you about the ball. They are all just jealous. You have every right to do whatever you want with that ball, especially because it is probably worth life-changing money. I love A Rod, but we both know he is already a mega-millionaire.

June 23, 2015

Just wanted to say hi and do what ever u want to do with the AROD ball. Ignore all the haters out there a ton of them wouldn't give the ball back for free or even maybe not give the ball back. IMO, they are just jealous. I'm very jealous but I got to deal with it and I don't care. I love to collect sports memorabilia and that would be the best thing ever to have that ball. If I caught that I would keep it too. I would see what the yankees offered but it would have to be big for me to give the ball back. Plus u collect baseballs not signed bats and stuff. You are one of my people,e I admire and hope someday I could have as many baseballs as you. If I ever go to a game and see you I would freak out. I would probably get an autograph on a ball. I been begging my mom to buy me one of your books and she might. Thx for reading this

From,
Collin

June 23, 2015

Hey Zack!

Thanks so much for getting back to me. I really appreciate your email. I'm sure it's been a crazy couple of days for you. That is awesome that you're working with the Yankees and possibility a children's baseball charity. I hope it works out. Definitely keep in touch!

On a personal note, I am so impressed with how you've handled all of the comments that have been coming your way on Twitter. You have remained strong and true to yourself throughout all of it. Definitely a class act.

All the best...

June 22, 2015

Dear Zack,

First off congrats on getting the ball, that is amazing and i'll be forever jealous of you for that. I'm a yankee fan and i'm a fan of a-rod if i had gotten the ball i would've told the yankees for season ticket in those nice seats by the dugout, meet a-rod, and maybe even the cherry on top would be asking for a jeter game used jeresy (Hey, only gonna go up in value, their's not gonna be anymore lol). I also wanted to thank you because you've inspired to want to go too games to try and get home run balls. I went for the first time in the outfield at the yankees game on sat. (The day after A-rod's 3000th hit) and A-rod and Chris young hit home runs near me. I didn't get either one but it was so much fun being out there and the thrive of the chance to get a home run ball. I finally understood why you loved it so much and it seems i've fallen in love with it and I told my dad every yankee game we go to from now on we should sit in the outfield, so thanks for that and i'll be sure to send you an e-mail when I do get a ball at yankee stadium (Hopefully a home run ball!). I also wanted to ask you some questions if you don't mind, these are things i've just wondered i've known about you long before you caught's a-rod's 3k but i never really thought about coming in contact with you until now.
(I'm 17 yrs. old by the way)

Questions:

Besides catching a-rod's home run, what is your favorite home run ball you've ever caught?

What player was the 1st home run ball you ever caught?

What next stadium will you be going too? (That's not in NY)

Thanks a lot Zack and if i could reconmmend something, do more of those videos of you ball hawking at the stadiums. I loved watching them make one at yankee stadium and upload to youtube!

Thanks!

-Kyle

June 22, 2015

Hey Zack my name is Alex and I just wanted to say I am a big fan of yours. I am going down to Miami for a game versus my favorite team the Los Angeles Dodgers and I would love to snag a baseball from a Dodger and or Marlin. I am using your tips and I will put those into action when I go and I hope to get a few tossups from Dodger players which I hope happens if they have Batting Practice and Fielding drills that day. Wish me luck and I hope we can keep in contact during the season.

Sincerely ,
Alex

June 22, 2015

Zack, I just wanted to Email you and say congrats on catching A-Rod's 3,000th hit. I was watching the game and when I saw that you got it I could hardly believe it. Ignore all of the hate you are receiving because in all reality everybody is just jealous of you and the amazing life you live. Hopefully next time you're at Wrigley we run into eachother.

Best wishes, Matt. (Lol ps you should totally follow me on twitter @[removed for privacy])

June 22, 2015

Hi Zack,

You threw me a ball at the May 8th game at Yankee Stadium (after I called you a ringer ;). Thanks for that & for not giving *3000 to AR.

I have that ball as a special one because you threw it to me & I saw you try to catch a ball dropped from a helicopter.
I didn't know much about you then & only learned more about you because I found a camera at a game that belonged to a fellow ball hawker & friend of yours named Cristian from upstate NY. He has a blog & I was able to contact him & return the camera. On his blog he wrote about you & it got me interested in how you guys do what you do.

Now I'm the old lady trying to catch BP balls before Yankee games. I bring my mitt whenever I go & get excited whenever a ball comes my way. I have never caught one on the fly. Ichiro threw me one really hard last year on 5/1/14 & laughed like crazy that I was able to catch it (I was on field in the opening between monument park & the bullpens in a roped off area). A friend has season tickets & gets some perks like that.

In closing I just want to say try not to listen to all the negative comments people are hitting you with. I have been setting the record straight about how you give kids (& old ladies ;) balls all the time. Hold out for a big payday, get a lawyer for sure, but definitely do what feels right to you.

Keep on catching 'em,
Sharon

Hey Zack. My name is Josh and I live in CT. I was born in Bayonne NJ and I'm a die hard Mets fan. I know you say that your more a fan of baseball now but I know deep down you must still bleed orange and blue. I try to go to as many games as I can but can we please meet up at Citi Field one of these days? It'd be awesome to meet you. If you have a chance could you send me your autograph. That'd be cool too. We'll if you can my address is [removed for privacy] Waterbury, CT 06708. And could you put up some more Ball Hawking videos on YouTube. It's a good watch. Thanks man. And LGM!

-Josh

P.S.
A-Rod doesn't deserve S***! Don't give him the ball!

June 22, 2015

Zack – I’ll be brief as you're a busy man this week! Longtime follower, closer to your age, 34, 3 kids etc etc. Big Twins fan here in Minnesota, follow your blog and twitter.

Good luck with the ARod ball, remember, you can't please them all.

I finally passed your total of balls snagged at Target Field, I just started snagging a couple of years ago! My issue is I'm 3 hours one way from Target Field, so only get to 8/9 games a season.

Wanting to send the ball that passed your total to you with your auto, if you get me your address will you sign and return?!

Let me know.

Thanks

-Cam

June 22, 2015

I know your busy at the moment, but I need to tell you something. I'm a 14 year old boy from a small town in Iowa. I am a Cubs fan, and since I started watching your videos I decided that's what I want too do.(Ball Hawking) I just bought tickets to a Cubs game. I live 3 hours from Wrigley Field. I hope I can catch as many balls as you. P.S Can you give me so tips how to catch all these balls?!

Sincerely, Kane

June 22, 2015

Hello!
My name is Alex. I know you probably won't read this, because of all the other stuff going on with you right now, but I figured I'd send it anyway. First of all I want to congratulate you on catching that ball. That probably felt amazing. I realize all the hate you're getting so no worries, this is not a hateful email!! I know you're in a predicament, but I will say I think you should give it back. For work with the Yankees on getting that ball back to them, and you getting a plus from them. Season tickets, signed stuff, anything. Arod deserves that ball. I would consider selling it, but feel I would regret it. That's all I wanted to say! Good luck with your decision, and stay safe!
Thanks for your time.
Alex

June 22, 2015

Hey Zack!

Nice catch on the A-Rod ball!! Once I heard that you were the one who caught it, I was like "That guy has done it again!" Congrats!

Mike Trout, Yankee Stadium and now A-Rod. Your legend continues to grow.

My wife has suggested that you should be a scout for a MLB team. No one has the ability to predict just when and where a ball will be hit like you do.

If you decide to sell it, let me know. I will post it on my website.

Congrats again!

Thanks,

Dan

June 22, 2015

Hey man, don't try to let people talk you down. The Yankee fan base may not like you, but a majority of the other 29 do. Do what's right for you. I'd say you're a hero to me, and I know that I'm not the only one.

-Brett

June 22, 2015

Hey man, do whatever you want with YOUR ball. Don't listen to these douches telling you what to do with the ball that is rightfully yours. Last summer you helped me get a ball that I wanted. You're really a great guy and I wish you nothing but the best with whatever the outcome is. Best of luck and God Bless

-Josh

June 21, 2015

Dear Zack,

I'm 14 and a big baseball fan myself and I love sports memorabilia. I have been watching a lot of your YouTube videos of you catching several baseballs at games and I think it’s awesome. You are doing what you love, not caring what other people think. I am impressed with your love and dedication to the game of baseball. I totally respect any decision you make with Alex Rodriguez's 3000th hit ball. You can do whatever you want with it as long as you're happy with your decision. I love reading your blogs too, you seem like an excellent writer. I plan on reading your books soon and gaining some great knowledge. Just keep doing what you're doing and have fun! I would love for you to read this and respond, but I know you have hundreds of emails and texts.

Best regards,

-Brendan

June 21, 2015

I've been following you and all your blog entries for about 6 months now and I found it outright crazy that YOU... Out of what must have been 50,000 people at that stadium THAT day was the one that caught A-Rod's home run ball! It completely astounds me that people could be hating on you for catching it... I think the answer is that they're just jealous. I'm a big fan and I hope to see you at a game sometime soon.

All the best,

Justin

June 21, 2015

Hey Z,

I followed the "action" "live" that night, and knowing where your season ticket is, I was like O Em Jee that ball went right to the spot!!! However, my first thought (since I couldn't spot you on the replay the first time) was that you would have gone over to LF and that you were then pissed that it went to your seat. So I went to your twitter and Oh Em Jesus, silly me, you were where the ball went, and you had it in your hands. Bravo. And I and every other SANE person salute you on what seems like an obvious choice not to give your ball that is rightfully yours and only yours, despite what Ms. Capernicus says, back to the fraud who hit it. But of course once the media gets its collective dick hard about certain ideas, the herd mentality snowballs the fuck out of control and suddenly you, a nice friendly guy who is simply living his life while, bonus, doing a lot for kids that nobody else does, are made out to be some kind of great satan, all for not handing over his own personal possession to the actual satan. (When you're not making a big steamroller out of babies to run over other babies with, which you apparently do at a near-constant rate.) Trying to defend you online is so frustrating for me (and I'm not even you, I'm me, though some people online assume I AM you pretending to be someone else!) so I can't imagine how frustrating it is for you. But I know you know people can be stupid and the stupidest are the loudest. I hung out with some of my family today, the same ones who I'd told all about you the last time I saw them, and today we all talked about this current event which just happens to involve YOU, and just so you know, they all were pissed about all the preposterous made-up shit they've been hearing about someone who they feel is a friend, if only vicariously through me. So, congrats on doing your usual, hope you come up with something cool to do with that ball. Whatever it is, it'll be none of my or anybody else's fucking business.

June 21, 2015

Hey Zack I'm a huge Alex Rodriguez fan! I heard you caught Alex Rodriguez 3,000 hit! Congratulations man! That's huge! You caught one of the only 29 balls that are 3,000 hits! I hear you having trouble deciding what to do with it. Well man it's your choice don't let anyone influence you on what to do! I was just wondering if I could get your autograph considering you are pretty famous now! If you read this please reply so I can send you my Address! And if you're ever in LA please let me know I would love to go to a Dodger game with you! Anyways Take care man! GO DODGERS!

-Hector

June 21, 2015

Hey Zack,

Congrats on the biggest catch of your career. I respect that you are doing what YOU want, instead of caving into public pressure. I have plenty more to say, but I would rather talk on air on my radio show. I'm on air 6-7 PM five days a week on WFAS AM 1230. I would be so appreciative if we could have a conversation on air. If you're interested just let me know what day is best for you and then we can sort out details.

I met you at a Yankees game last year. We had a lenthy conversation about your awesome hobby right by the away team bullpen. I go to a lot of Yankee games like you and I don't really care where I sit. If you are going to the matinee game vs the Phillies this Wednesday let me know if you want to meet up and talk in person.

Thanks so much,
Gillon

June 21, 2015

Zack-

A quick tip of the hat; my support goes out to you! Good luck with your decision and sorry for all the people giving you shit, it's your ball.

It was nice to hear you mention your Dad today!

Peace,

Dennis in Chicago

June 21, 2015

Hey Zack, I hope all of the hate is starting to die down by now but I wanted to let you know that I support your decision on keeping the ball. Dont let all of the "haters" get to you and instead try to ignore them because at the end of the day they were never in your position and will never know the significance of your decision. I hope you take good care of that ball and treasure it for the rest of your life. Talk about a conversation starter! Anyways I think you deserve that ball for all of the hard work and dedication throughout your lifetime. It couldn't of found a better home!

Your friend and supporter,
Grant

P.S.- Go Tigers!!! :)

June 21, 2015

Hi Zack. I just wanted to tell you to ignore the haters. Any time you think about giving that ball back just remember A-Rod tried to sue the MLB TWICE after his suspension was handed down to him. He deserves no favors from you or any MLB fan.

-Matt (random internet stranger)

June 21, 2015

Hey Zack, you probably won't see this but it's Double T here, long time member of the blog. If you don't remember me, I am the one who wrote an essay about you two years ago about you being an inspiration. Anyways, huge congrats on catching A-Rod's 3,000th hit! You probably have been reading tons of these all day but it truly is awesome to see that you got something this huge, especially since I've been following you on twitter and reading the blog for years. Again, congratulations!

-Double T

June 21, 2015

I just discovered your blog from all A-Rod ball hype. I’ve spend the last 2 hours sitting here and reading your stuff and had to email you. Great stuff. You’ve made a new fan. I was wondering, aside from the new ball, what would be the greatest ball in your collection? Thanks for all the hard work on your blog and good luck with the A-Rod ball.

-Michael

June 21, 2015

Hey man you don't know me but listening and hearing all these people bash you is just sad. I'm sure you're already doing this but keep your head up. Those people that are bashing you having nothing better to do with there time than try to bring others down. Congrats on catching the ball and cause I'm from Seattle... Go Mariners!

We live in a free society. You can do whatever you want with that Home Run ball. I've ordered your book. When I receive it and then after I read it could I contact you about sending it to you to get it autographed?

I live in Northern California and I am a avid A's fan!

Thanks,
Scott

June 21, 2015

June 21, 2015

Hey Zack,

I've been hearing your name alot lately on how your being greedy with that ball. To think last year A-Rod was a disgrace to the Yankee organization (am i right?). But when spring training started everyone just stopped caring about that. Now people and the media are pretty much using you as a disgrace as they did to him. So to take from this e-mail is to "enjoy" this attention and soon it will all be over.

-Zachary

June 21, 2015

I sincerely hope you keep that ball, and send a message to everyone that Cheating should not be rewarded. It's a message that is sadly lost in our world of greed and excess. Ignore all of the morons who are breading you for standing up for yourself and keeping what is fairly and justly yours.

Hi my name is Connor and my first MLB game I went to you caught me a ball and gave it to me! I was so happy! And now that you caught the 3000th hit of A-rod I'm even happier I got to meet you! I would like to go to a game with you! Only thing is I live in St. Louis so if you ever come down her make sure to tell me!!! Also I know it's kinda weird but since your like a small celeb now could you send me your autograph? lol please thanks! Here's my address...

You suck! Sorry, felt left out.

I'm very happy you got A-Rod's HR and very sorry for the accompanying bullshit. The rush to judgment when you haven't even made a decision is emblematic of this Internet tough guy/hot take generation.

For what it's worth, I think you've handled everything perfectly so far. Which further invalidates the mob mentality. It is hilarious how quickly everyone went from hating A-Rod to defending his honor.

Anyways ... Hang in there. I'll see you soon.

June 21, 2015

Regarding your latest, greatest acquisition, I'm sure you're stirring up diametrically opposing views. Mark me down emphatically in support. It's a lottery ticket you've got there, yes. And you're 100% right: this Mr. 3,000 does NOT deserve a favor from you!

Not as splashy, obviously, but I also had an adventure at a big-league ballpark this week: a week ago today, I took three old Mets-loving Italian widows from my Brooklyn 'hood--97, 86, and a pup of 75--to CitiField. They got to sit in the dugout pre-game, meet some players (and Wilpon), and get their mugs flashed up on the Jumbotron. A good time had by all. Plus the Mets came from five down and won. The team gave each of 'em an autographed ball, also--Strawberry, Seaver, and Orosco.

Meantime, you don't need me to tell you, but stick to your guns! As I heard you say on TV: if he wants to bid on it, he can.

-Jerry

June 21, 2015

Zack,

First off, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Sam, I'm a big fan of yours, or just became bigger. You've mastered the art of snagging baseballs, something that EVERY sports fan dreams of catching, but isn't smart enough to figure out odds or where it could be hit to, land, bounce from, hitter tendencies. In my opinion, some team should offer you a contract of being a fielding/position coach.

My first encounter with you was at Shea Stadium. 2006. I was a junior in high school. Cut class to attend opening week. Naturally, it was my first time ever at BP. I went early because the stadium security let everyone in the field level during BP, but of course anyone could stick around there for the game. I couldn't afford anything more than upper $5 seats, but needed to see the game from field.

I'm standing down the left field line next to the triangle grass patch. hoping for a player to notice me, or maybe a bouncer down the line. I saw you whip out your glove trick to retrieve one. I thought it was genius.

You had caught a few more, and actually got a players attention for me to get me a baseball. my first one ever. I thanked you, as what normal person asks for a baseball for someone else. Never. Little did I know you were a collector, yet alone ball-hawk.

I kept seeing you in action at shea, occasionally at Yankee Stadium. Then I'm watching my Yankees in 2008, and saw you back to back nights make those HR catches in the bleachers. I knew right away you had special talents, and really admired you (even thought my days of trying to get baseballs were behind me). I decided to watch some replays and interviews from those, and came across all your youtube videos, interviews on big TV shows, etc.

People hate because they're jealous. I love odds and statistics, and love how you mastered the art of figuring tendencies of hitters vs. Pitchers. MANY MLB managers can't position their players as well as you can yourself based on the matchup.

Around 2009, I lost my love for baseball when the teams opened new stadiums. It was all about money for them. It wasn't as exciting anymore, so I turned to hockey which I'm in love with, and became a ticket broker to join in capitalizing on these new stadiums.

When Jeter hit 3K, I thought that guy was real dumb to give up potentially $50K+ for a "memory to meet derek jeter". It's not like he can afford that, working at a cell phone store. At the time I wished it were you who caught it, and held it ransom. I think everyone secretly wants that, or is jealous it wasn't them.

Then Friday night, my dream came true. You got your hands on history, and my dream of seeing someone hold a ball ransom and unwilling to give it up WAS AMAZING. No one is entitled to anything. I can't wait to read your full story of this.

People say you're a pusher, or whatever in the stands. EVERYONE pushes for a baseball. There's no violence, it's fair game, and you're a pro. And I've also seen you give away more balls than anyone, including many greedy players.

Keep doing what you're doing. Enjoy it. After a few years, you'll be too old to chase these balls, so don't regret anything later. It's a hobby, passion, and bottom line amazing. AND YOUR CHARITY IS PHENOMENAL, KEEP IT UP!!

People hate because they're jealous. Simple. I'm rather amazed, and a big time supporter of you, and your videos, and preciseness to everything!!! And keep going at the haters on twitter. I love when people accuse then get shut down when someone defends themselves.

I don't go to Yankee Stadium often anymore (only Rangers at MSG) (maybe once a year these days to Yankees), but next time I come out, I'll try to find you in the outfield and say hi.

PS, with all this new fame, you've got to consider raising your price to "watch with Zack", and put more of those videos on your site so people can actually see it's very worth it.

All the best bro, keep making these awesome headlines, I'm enjoying EVERY SECOND of this. Glad it was you. Couldn't have been a better glove to catch that than yours!

-Sam

June 21, 2015

Just wanted to say Congrats.. Coming from a die hard Yankees fan and also a huge AROD fan. Not sure why any one is hating on you. Thats what comes in life. People seem to get jealous and build hatred over those they envy. Catching a ball like that is like hitting the lottery, a very rare chance. I would do the same thing you are doing. Think it over what you are going to do. You caught it, the ball is yours. Congrats

-Ryan

June 21, 2015

I don't know much about you but been reading your web site and some other articles if that ball means something to you then you should keep it. If you do give it up make sure you get what you think is fair. I know you get many emails I won't keep you I wish you the best of luck.

Bill
PS if you ever make it to Memphis email me and I'll get you a VIP tour of Graceland and some good BBQ

June 21, 2015

Zack,

Every time I hear how fans "give away" balls to this rich millionaires for a measly crumb in return, it just maddens me.

THAT BALL BELONGS TO YOU! YOU PAID FOR THE TICKET! YOU TOOK THE RISK!

NOW IT'S YOUR TURN TO CASH IN! I HOPE YOU GET EVERY PENNY YOU CAN GET!

If A-Rod wants it, he can PAY for it! Trust me, that egomaniac wants that ball badly! Hold out for 100K!

AND ENJOY IT!

George,
Fellow Normal Civilian

June 21, 2015

Auction the ball using Christies or high end service. Give 10% to charity and keep the rest. F Arod, the NYY or anyone.

-Terry H.

June 21, 2015

Hi Zack,

Joel and I just watched your interview on ESPN, and we are so proud of you. It took a lot of guts not to cave in to all of the pressure and give that ball back. You are doing the right thing. Fuck those haters!

xoxo
Donna

June 21, 2015

That ball was given to you by A Rod. It belongs to you. You live in America. Sell it for the best price you can get. One day you might have kids who will need an education. One day you might want a house by the sea. This is your work. You just got the big payola for many years of toil.

-Andy

Zack -

Everyone who knows you and has seen you @ games knows you don't knock over kids (or women or anyone else).

You can't change the minds of those that are ignorant (Bald Vinny for example).

Stay strong and keep doing what you're doing. More people support you than don't.

June 20, 2015

Hey Zack,

Congrats on getting ARods 3,000th! And I commend you for doing what you think is right. Speaks a lot About your character to not give in to those idiots over the twitterverse. Anyways, I'm thinking about coming up to New York in a few weeks and I'd love to catch a game with you while I'm there! I'm 21 and always down for a good time. I'm a die hard whitesox fan and have a dream to make it to all the MLB ballparks. Similar to you, I catch baseballs often (not as many as you though, haha), and I only have gotten them at US Cellular. Any response would be awesome! Thanks Zack!

Eric

June 20, 2015

Hi Zack,

You don’t know me, I don’t know you but wanted to reach out to you. I run a baseball history company that celebrates the history of our game through social media and our website...I really just wanted to reach out to you just to say that I think you are a genuinely good guy based on interviews you have done and really love your passion for baseball which is displayed on your youtube channel. I know you are getting a lot of heat on this one and don’t really think you are leveraging the balls you have given children and your charitable efforts. For anything that this e-mail may be worth please start leveraging your charitable efforts you have done and will continue to do. I hate to see someone with this much passion be scolded by so many people. I really wish you the best but just wanted to drop a note as I think you can be doing more to let people know about the good that you do.

All the best,
Brad

June 20, 2015

CONGRATS Zack on the ARod ball, from Bill, your fellow ball hawk here at AT&T Park. I agree with you. Don't give it back! It doesn't belong to ARod. It belongs to the person who caught it and that is YOU! It's only a symbolic object to him and just because he's a celebrity doesn't make the average Joe obligated to accommodate him or any of the Yankee execs. If they want it that bad, they'd pay you for it just like anything else in life and just like they expect YOU and everyone else to pay for what they provide for your entertainment. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity so don't succumb to any guilt trips they'll lay on you.

Take care and see you sometime in SF.

-Bill (Section 138)

June 20, 2015

Are you going to go to Tropicana Field anytime soon if so it would be very cool to meet you and get you to autograph my copy of your book.

-Vinny

June 20, 2015

I've seen you on TV and I've seen you during BP at yankees stadium quite a bit. I know of all the charity work you do, and I've heard the people calling you selfish, it's clear to me you're not. You should take advantage of your new fame and make public your charity. You seem like a good guy, and congrats!

-C.J.

June 20, 2015

Dear Zack,

I happened to be watching the news this morning and was very impressed with your speaking skills. You did a superb job with the interview and I approve of you keeping the ball.

Sincerely,
Candace

June 20, 2015

Zack,
First off congratulations on snagging A-Rod's 3000th hit ! I just read article in N.Y. Daily news. A-Rod and most other spoiled baseball players could give a rat's ass about regular fans. I would start at 1 million and negotiate from there. Whatever you decide to do, I'm glad for you. Regards, Damon  June 20, 2015

Zack, I just saw your interview on ESPN very well said. I thought you spoke well & your making a decision solely on what you want to do without any influence from anybody. As a Detroit Tiger fan watching the game last night I couldnt believe you wound up with the ball as you still see people scrabbling around looking for it as your hands were up in the air. I'm also glad to see you didn't let Yankee authorities bully you around. In 2005 in Detroit at the All Star Game I caught Mark Teixeria home run ball as it was his 1st HR in a ASG as he was with the Texas Rangers. I had to listen to Texas authorities bully me into low ball offers, needless to say I still have the ball. It's not about me as today it's about you, congrats again and to your charity.

Sincerely Lou.

 June 20, 2015

Hey Zack what's up, this is Cory the security guard from Yankee stadium a couple years ago if you remember. If so what's going on? I wrote you on Twitter but I see you've been busy. Anyways nice job on that catch and nice to see your still out there. Make the Yankees give you seats behind the plate and some cash for that ball lol. Hope all is well with you.

June 20, 2015

Zack,
Just wanted to shout out some support to you today! You don't owe the Yankees or A-Rod anything, and I think you're doing the right thing. I hope you are getting a lot more emails like this one, because I think you deserve a ton of credit for all you have accomplished.

Congratulations, and stick to your guns -- people that are getting down on you must be jealous or naive. If Rodriguez wants that damn ball he can pay you for it... Guy makes more money than some entire nations do!

Way to go -- that ball landed in the right hands. Good for you and best wishes!!

Take care,
Robert

June 20, 2015

Dear Zack: Hope this email finds you well and happy.

I was just reading the NY Times and learned that it was you who caught the A-Rod 3,000 hit HR ball, and then refused to give it back to him !!!!

Good for you! I laughed when I read about your involvement. You truly are the King of baseball retrieval.

I despise everything about A-Rod, and was miffed that he joined Jeter and Boggs by having hit a HR for his 3,000th hit. I will not truly be a Yankees fan again until A-Rod leaves, and frankly I am counting the days. After 50+ years of rooting for the Yankees, it is intolerable to me that A-Rod wears the pinstripes.

In any event, I hope that you either donate the ball to the HOF, or simply keep it in your collection. I still have the baseball displayed that you caught & then gave me during the 2011 NLDS playoffs at Citizens Bank Park. I think of you fondly whenever I see it.

BTW, about a year ago I left Philadelphia and am now living in Portland, Oregon. If you are ever out this way, please look me up.

Be well,

-Howard

June 20, 2015

I can't believe that was you! When I saw the first replay of it on-line last night, I thought, "Hey, that looks like Zack! Nah, it can't be. What are the odds?" Then I read that it was you today and I'm totally blown away. You deserve this, man! After all these years and hard work, this is the true cherry on top!

-David

June 20, 2015

Just saw a tweet where you said people are calling you horrible. Just want to let you know your awesome.

-Joel

June 20, 2015

It's your ball. Period. Why do people feel presumptuousness enough to tell/insist what you should do with it Good luck dealing with THAT nuisance! All the best.

-Glenn

June 20, 2015

The first 2 minutes I read about you I thought you were an ass but after a while and getting past the judgement stage I realized this is what you like to do and who am I to judge that?

Maybe I am jealous because you are doing something you love and I am not haha. Keep being the best ball catcher out there. I am a Dodgers fan living in SD going to Petco so if you ever need a ticket to get in just give me a ball and your in. :)

-Mark

June 20, 2015

Hi Zack,I'm a New Yorker that's currently in Florida visiting Family for Father's Day weekend and I'll be back home in New York on Monday.Like many Baseball Fans,I just want to congratulate you on catching A-Rods Ball that got him his 3,000th hit.Totally up to you exactly what you do or don't do with the ball. And Like many,I'd be happy to take in a Yankee game or even Any game with you depending on your schedule,Hopefully,You will take this opportunity to use all the publicity that you're getting to promote yourself, Your books and your Charity and that you do continue to do well with it.Just take care of yourself and Hope I can go with you to a game one of these days depending on your schedule.

Sincerly, Greg

June 20, 2015

Zack- Do NOT just give the ball back to that cheater who has earned a half billion bucks. Take your time. That ball ain’t going nowhere and neither is the game of baseball. Let the ball make you some meaningful money and don’t feel bad about it for one second. Now is the time for Zack to do Zack. Eff the haters.

-Bob

June 20, 2015

Zack,

First, fantastic news on getting A-Rod's 3000th. Before I learned it was you, I had wondered if you were the one. How did you manage to snag the homer with all the people around you? Was it a nice jump at the right moment?

I have a partial season ticket plan at CBP. Two seats, first row in left center. My upcoming games are Fri July 17 vs Marlins, and Wed July 22 vs Rays. Should be two very good ball hunting nights, with these opponents and the awful state of the Phils. Would you like to meet me there for one or both games, free ticket? No strings attached, you can go off and ballhawk wherever you want. I usually stand in left center field in the aisle during BP, maybe 10 rows up. Let me know if you'd be interested.

Thanks

-Rich

June 20, 2015

Congrats on another baseball.
Is there anyway you can send me an autographed business card?
That is what I collect with my 9 year old Grandson.
I don't have 8,000 but I do have close to 500, mostly Coaches & CEO's.
I would greatly appreciate it if you could do this.
Thank you.

June 20, 2015

Congratulations on catching A-Rod’s 3000 hit homer! What a thrill that has to be. Just saw you on SportsCenter! Great interview. Great to hear about your background.

Good luck on your decision.

-Alan

June 20, 2015

Zack, just saw you on SportsCenter. The ball is yours. You caught it. You own it. Only you should decide what to do with it. Congrats. I love what you’re doing. Also, I shared your life story with my daughters and they got a kick out of it.

-Barry

June 20, 2015

Congratulations and I for one am psyched you got the ball! You have worked hard to get where you are and yes some luck is involved but the same is true of the Yankees and A-Rod. I’m so glad you didn’t give it back to them for free — ridiculous, why would anyone even ask a fan to do that!! I think if you don’t want the money, you should auction it off for a legit charity… But otherwise, keep the ball or sell it back to the Yankees and keep the money. It’s your ball — you earned it!!! Lots of love and strength to you for the coming weeks man. Best wishes and congratulations!

-Robert

June 20, 2015

hey Zack - saw you caught the A-Rod ball and DECIDED TO KEEP IT!!! kudos to you for making a wise move -- whether you sell it or keep it! I listened to Michael Kay and the other shithead announcers all high & mighty - "fan says he's keeping it so A-Rod's not going to get that ball." (sob, sob, whine whine). F___ MLB - they can profit and rob the fans over and over but one fan in a billion catches a ball and can sell it for $50k (and the Yankees probably offer him a signed ball and a picture and when he says no, they act like he's the villain)? how much $$ has Zach put in A-Rod's pocket over the years??? A-lot, I would guess. I have been saying for years that these fans "giving shit back" to teams and players for essentially nothing in return are nothing but poor saps!

KUDOS the YOU!!!

-Michael

June 20, 2015

Zack,

I am a big baseball fan and just heard your interview on ESPN 98.7 Radio here in NY. It must be a great feeling to catch/obtain a HR baseball hit by a player in general but last night getting Arods 3,000th hit a HR must be amazing. I have never been fortunate in games I have attended in my life to catch a HR ball/foul ball besides Tony Clark tossing up a ball to me near 1st base at a game once while he was on the Mets. I like the idea of possibly playing catch in Central Park with Arod for starters.

Congrats again and enjoy your moment.

Regards,
Rob

June 20, 2015

Wow. CONGRATS! Nobody deserved this snag more than you. And this has to be the most comments on any blog entry of yours EVER. Boy oh boy did the trolls come out. I will not suggest any course of action except to NOT give the ball to Rodriquez. It is not his. It is yours. I know you will figure out the right thing to do; the thing that will benefit the most people and I hope yourself, too. I am so proud of you.

-Liz

June 20, 2015

Congrats Zack!

You probably have no idea who I am, but I’m friends with Lawrence - I know he recently reached out to you r/e snagging game used logo balls. Maybe you’ve seen me with him at Yankee games.

I also randomly posted a comment on your blog commending you on calling out the people using offensive language at a game while you were shagging one day.

In any case, just wanted to drop a quick line and say congratulations! I’m definitely envious and admire your ball shagging abilities!

I noticed that you were open to suggestions on what you should do with the ball - I’m a big fan of game used baseballs and memorabilia, so one of the things I might ask for would be a single game used baseball for every home game going forward, for life!

Just thought I would offer my two cents. Admire you for having thick skin - screw everyone making judgements and calling you out, especially those who have no idea who you are as a person.

Hope to congratulate in person one day.

-Richard

June 20, 2015

A-Rod has made over 400 million in his career for being a cheater. Make him pay Zack. That ball is your lottery ticket.

-Frank

June 20, 2015

I didn’t know until I got back home that it was YOU who caught A-Rods home run. Yeah, keep it. Money can’t buy success. From an old ball hawk to the new generation you have my respect. All I can say is WOW!!!!

-Bob

June 20, 2015

Ignore the idiot trolls, Zack. I think you should just keep it, it's your baseball you get to do whatever you want. If A-Roid wants it back, he will have to beg ;)

June 20, 2015

Congrats dude! In all seriousness, add to your will that that baseball will stay within your family (or trusted family friend) until the end of time and will never be sold. You’ve never gotten to play in the Bigs but you made a sport/competition out of capturing baseballs during live games (and pre- and post-). In essence, THIS is your World Series MVP Trophy. As far as I’m concerned, this is worth way more to you than it is to MLB or A-Rod. You’ve paid your fair share of $$ to attend the plethora of MLB games over the span of your lifetime. You don’t owe anyone anything. Seriously though, put that ball in a safe (with the will) and utilize this opportunity to spread awareness about your books/blogs and charities. Screw anyone that scolds you for milking this opportunity but at the end of the day, you gotta look out for yourself. I’m 21 now and after reading/hearing about you getting screwed at Yankee Stadium since I was 14, it’s poetic justice that now YOU have something that THEY want. I would be a smartass to the Yanks and ask: If his milestones aren’t “marketable” then why do you care so much? And if it’s only A-Rod that wants it, then he would be going above and beyond with his offer. Also think about that time of when you nearly missed Griffey’s 600th Home Run. You were 5 feet away…Let that sink in. I would easily return Griffey’s ball, but this isn’t Griffey we’re talking about here. 7 years later and you’ve finally been able to acquire something close to that. Maybe Joe (the Griffey ball dude) will reach out to you about writing that book haha if he still has your card! Email me if you want to talk more. Congrats again man and of course, thank you again for signing my copy of your book and always being a class act.

-Ruben

June 20, 2015

Hey Zack,

I caught A'RODS 660th, and I'd love to have a conversation with you! I sure if your experience is anything like mine was your in for a crazy weekend. In any event congrats on the catch, and thank you for doing such a good job of explaining your stance of not giving the ball back. I couldn't be more in agreement it really is a one in a million type deal.
If you have some time at some point I would love to have a conversation with you about the balls, the experience, and whatnot. Shoot me an email or you can call or text me. I have done a ton or research as well so I'm more than happy to share what I've learned.

Best and congrats,

You've officially blown my fucking mind. Hats off to you, bud. Dont let the Yanks bully you....

June 20, 2015

Hi Zack

I just arrived home from a week long vacation in Hawaii. The first thing I did was turn on MLB network and there was Zack!

Zack, you're one incredible individual and I'll tell you this, and I absolutely believe this, you catching the HR was not luck, this was pure skill. I believe that there will never be an individual who is capable of what you do ever again......

I'm glad that I know you. And to have seen you in action!!

Congratulations!!!

June 20, 2015

Zack,

You live once.

I think the right place for that ball is in the hands of a true collector or the owner of that ball. And that may very well be the hands of Alex Rodriguez or the Baseball HOF. But hey, if they want it, let them come get it. This is a free worlds market. The hysteria is at its peak.

Auction it off. Let them come get it. You like every other fan deserves a piece of the pie. You pay their salaries as a devoted MLB fan. Without you, they don’t get to play baseball for a living. Keep the winnings to take care of yourself and your future. The memory will always be there.

-Sid

June 20, 2015

Mr. Hample, as a young fan of yours and also as someone who has read all of your books, I really recommend that you KEEP the baseball. A-Ro(I)d cheated the game and you work so hard trying to get baseballs. What’s better than having a 3,000 hit HOME RUN ball to add to the collection? I wouldn’t take the Yankees up on any monetary offer unless it is over 500K (dead serious). Please take this into consideration and I really, really hope you decide to hold on to it. Thank you!!

-Peter

June 20, 2015

First off, congrats! Second, way to hold your ground and not give it back. The cheat doesn’t deserve the ball, let alone the milestone itself. Third of all, way to take all the crap on Twitter. As for the ball; don’t sell it. If you do, the Twitter haters will think you’re money thirsty. If you really have no desire to keep it, you should sell it, and donate the money to charity.

Thanks!
-Larry

June 20, 2015

I'm a lifelong baseball fan (Giants), but surprisingly only just found out about you after hearing about you catching A-Rod's 3,000th hit. I admire you for wanting to hold onto the ball, and especially for your reasons why.

But the real reason for this e-mail? Well, after visiting your website, I have to say . . .

Best. Frigging. FAQs. Page. Ever!

Cheers,
Bob

Hey man. Long time. Congrats on the snag tonight. Pretty epic. Keep doing what makes you happy, and screw the naysaying jackasses.

Dude: you now have an army of entitled, indignant pinstripe D-bags who are absolutely FURIOUS with you!
You may be the most well loathed fan since...bartman??
Their righteous over the top false (yet genuine) outrage is like pure ambrosia to me.
Well done.
SO proud ;~)

June 19, 2015

ZACK, Congrats! CONGRATS! Just saw you on mlb tv. I am SO HAPPY you got A-ROD 3,000 hits HR ball!!!!!! MAN! WOW! Could not happen to a better guy. Again I am So Happy For You!! More power to you my friend!

-Tak

June 19, 2015

I just got home and I was checking my Facebook feed. I see an article by ESPN titled "New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez notched his 3,000th career hit on Friday night – Derek Jeter-style." I realize, "Hey, that means he hit a home run." My next thought was, "What are the odds that he hit it opposite field, and what are the odds that Zack is there tonight?" I figured it would be "low and high", respectively. I click the video and I literally gasped when the ball was hit straight towards your staircase. My next thought went something like this… "Zack, you better catch that dang ball!" Today, you can replace Lou Gehrig as the luckiest man on the face of this earth. Congratulations.

-Jason

June 19, 2015

Are you FUCKING kidding me!

That proves it, you must be a God!

UN FUCKIN BELIEVABLE!

ps. Sorry about the language! But nothing else said it.

-Stuart

June 19, 2015

If it means that much to him, let Alex Rodriguez use his rarified position in the economic stratosphere of our society to acquire it.

I can't believe the people on Twitter reacting as though you're some kind of bully for not just handing it over.

-Jake

June 19, 2015

Hey Zack,

I've emailed you before thanks to you I've gotten alot of toss ups at games. I heard about you snagging Arods 3000 hit ball and I wanted to congratulate you. Also I respect how you are keeping the ball. I would do the same thing you don't owe the Yankees anything. Alex doesn't deserve the ball I personally dislike him because hes a cheat. Congrats again.

-Nick

June 19, 2015

Hi Zack,

I couldn't help but notice that you managed to snag A-Rod's 3,000th hit! Unbelievable!! What are the chances? My goodness. Congrats on making that grab - in traffic too! Good for you.

Have a great weekend!

-Chip

June 19, 2015

Zack,
I just tweeted a photo to you.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Can't believe I watched that live on TV! Unreal. My son and I both said...'wouldn’t that be cool if Zack caught #3000?'….UNBELIEVABLE! Think I cheered almost as much as you!

Took some TV screen shots…thought you'd like them.

Again…just awesome!!! :) :) :)

May 29, 2015

Hey Mr. Hample,

I know you probably get the generic "I'm a huge fan" thing when people recognize you, but really, I read your blog posts the night that you publish them. I live in Los Altos, CA, and I go to see about 10 Giants games a year. I love snagging balls (I go to BP whenever possible), and I got at least 1 ball at each Giants postseason game last year in 2014. I just created my profile on MyGameBalls.com, and I updated a few games there. I just wanted to let you know that I will be at the Orioles vs. Yankees on game Friday, June 12, and if there's any chance that you'll be there I would love to meet you, and maybe watch you snag.

Thanks,
Matt, age 16

 May 25, 2015

Hey Zack, I am arguably a ballhawk who is only fourteen years old. I live in Dallas Texas and love going to rangers games and I've probably been to about fifty. I am going to one this weekend against the Red Sox (My favorite team) and then another one a couple days later against the White Sox. I have been non stop reading your blog and it's very interesting. I have read each blog about the rangers ballpark multiple times, and sadly I will admit that i do read your blog during class. I have been to Minute Maid park, Safeco, Wrigley, Fenway, Comerica and of course Globe Life Park. I have a total of 38 balls in my collection and i have lost over 10 at the games and given away over 15. I have my own ball snagging device which is a can but is flimsy and does't work but only half the time. I have moved on from my device and gone to your marvelous glove trick. It works like a charm (as you know) and I can't wait to put it into action this weekend in between the gap at Globe Life Park. And next time you plan on coming to Arlington, I would love to know.

Thanks, Max

May 19, 2015

Dear Zack,

Hello my name is James. I am your biggest fan! I have watched most of your videos and have gone to your site many times. Your collection is cool!

I would love to meet you and see your collection some day. I'd also like my whole family and friends to go to a game with you some day - or even on a non-game day.

I am 11 and I am also a big fan of baseball. I have a big baseball card collection but not many baseballs yet. Like you, I don't have a favorite team. My favorite players are Clemente, Robinson and Babe Ruth.

How did you first get into collecting baseballs? Do you collect anything else? What is your favorite stadium?

I hope you will write back!

Your fan,
James D.

May 18, 2015

I am a HUGE fan of you and your blogs and I love ballhawking and have been to 12 stadiums and have caught roughly 100 baseballs but I was wondering if you would by any chance be in D.C. on 4th of July because I am most likely going to be there. Or Camden Yards the day before. It would be great seeing you!

I've been going to ballgames in Milwaukee since 1974 and never got a foul ball there…until April 23rd!! I was on the 2nd deck, section 220, working that beautifully wide walkway. You know the spot. Although I've gotten 3 foul balls in the past I'd never gotten one in my adopted baseball home (I grew up in Queens, 4 miles from Shea). You get my thanks for emphasizing the 2nd deck at Miller Park, and also for other ideas over the years….Easter eggs, toss ups, the glove trick…all of it. I miss your blog entries, but I also realize it must involve lots of time and effort. Keep 'em coming as often as your spirit allows. Finally…Re: "the stadiums in NY suck so much" I can’t get there so your blogs are my conduit. I know you didn’t sign up for that, but there it is. Take it easy, and thanks again.

Do you know if you’ll be making a trip out to Progressive Field in the near future? I’m a fan of the blog and I’d love to say hi.

Dear Zack,
I would like to thank you for the great advice you have provided on your website. Since discovering you I have so far gotten three balls from the Orioles BP. I even replicated your glove trick, and it actually worked! Any way if it wasn't for you, I would of never seen the joy on my little brothers face after I gave the ball to him (which I later got signed by Boog Powell). So thank you Zack, for allowing me to bond with my brother through the great game of baseball!

P.S. Dave Wallace threw me two balls in a period of 2 weeks

Any chance you have a schedule of when you'll be visiting Rogers Centre? Will sure love to meet you in person. And dont forget to bing your girlfriend!

I saw you catch that ball live in the Yankees vs Red Sox game. It was like 2 AM and my whole family was asleep but I woke my dad up because I burst out laughing when you faked the throw back. Awesome stuff man.

Hello Zack, greetings from Guatemala !
Besides your 3 great books that I own, what will you consider or recommend as a yearly great baseball reference book (teams, players, statistics, etc) ?
Thanks.

Hello Zack,

I am putting together a course for Rowan University and I am developing a module on perception. I would like to use your photo from Citi Field of someone standing in the left-center outfield looking at home plate (http://zackhample.mlblogs.com/2012/09/16/91212-at-citi-field/).

I will give full credit to you in the PowerPoint slides that I am developing for the class. The photo will not be used for posting on an Internet site, just for classroom material.

Thank you for your help

Regards,
Tod

Hi Zack my name is Nick, i am 16 years old and i want to be a sports writer. My latest assignment for my journalism class is to write a feature article where i interview someone famous. So i know that the holidays are coming up but if you could find the time to answer a few questions for my article that would be awesome.
This link is to my profile page and articles i have posted over the past few months. The questions are in this word document. Thanks so much for considering and happy holidays!

Dear Mr. Hample,

I would just like to say what a huge fan I am of you. I have read your blog for the past 9 months, and I even implemented some of your strategies. At a Braves game on June 30th I snagged 5 balls. I was so happy! Once again thank you.

September 28, 2014

Dear Zack:

I hope you don't mind that you give off the impression of having a rather full and happy life. Not all of us have been so lucky (I'm working on it).

Baseball has become something that helps a little bit. Your book was very helpful, and so I'm a fan. I didn't grow up watching it; I was in CO before they had a team and not many people were excited about it.

I'm becoming better off. I had a crappy childhood that morphed into some mental troubles. Finally I'm most of the way through a bachelor's degree. I actually took a class called "Baseball in American Culture". Our teacher had digested all of Ken Burns and was regurgitating some of it but that was okay. Our class could have been called, 'Baseball is special and let me tell you why.'

I think sometimes even after you're properly medicated and maybe outside of a REAL depression, I think maybe your brain can stay HABITUALLY in the wrong GROOVE. Then you have to pop out of it.

You seem like a friend sometimes. Your blogs are almost always fun (I don’t read them constantly), your books are good ones, even when they can be on strange subjects. I'm trying to be some sort of a writer too. I might go to Queens College to become a librarian but I’m not 100%.

I don’t have any interest in snagging baseballs. I might be one of those who wants attend with you for your expertise on the subject.

It's all good though. I think in the end things work out if you let them. But baseball is one of those tonics that's readily available.

I just like your work. You seem like a positive guy.

-Sophie

Hi Zack
It's Stephanie delaney's mom from the sept 10th Yankees game against the rays. I have been meaning to email you and let you know how impressed I am with your website. I hope you remember us. And I wanted to let you know we will never forget you and the impact you made on our trip to NY. You really made our trip go from great to super amazing. Your kindness and generosity is appreciated acknowledged and a wonderful example. So again we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. When we get back to New York to see another baseball game we will definitely shoot you an email. Also, we often go to Phillies games here in Philadelphia. If you are ever here at a game and you want to shoot me an email we can come meet up with you if you want.

Hey Zack!

My name is Joe, and we got in touch in May when I asked you to sign my copy of "The Baseball." I was the guy who sent you the Gary Cohen ticket. (Hope you like it- LOL) Thank you for signing and as a payback, I would like to donate to your Pitch in for Baseball fundraiser. It would be an honor.

I will pledge:

$0.01 Per Bal
$0.05 Per Game Attended
$0.50 per Stadium Attended

I know it's different, but I would like to reward you for all the things you do for baseball.

Hey Zack, my name is Drew and I have been reading your blog for about a year now, which is very well written, and I am a semi-regular at Miller Park. I've heard that you're coming on out to Chicago and the drunk capital of the world Wisconsin. I would just like to say that I might possibly be attended one game at the friendly confines and will definitely be at Miller Park on that Thursday and would like to say hi and meet you. By the way you luck out on the Thursday and the Season Ticket Holders get in a half hour early and it would be my pleasure to get you in early. Best of luck snagging and see you soon.

August 15, 2014

Dear Zack,

I have read nearly all of your blog entries and watched all of your YouTube videos in preparation to try and get a ball at the Mets vs. Nationals game at Citi Field 8/13/14. I saw you at the game during bp and in the bottom of the ninth over by the third base dugout, you looked so into it I figured I wouldn't bother you.

So I took your advice and wore the Nationals t-shirt during bp even though I am a die heart Mets fan. Eventually I ended up staying towards the batters-eye in left field waiting for a toss up or home run. Eventually, in the last batter of bp I was able to get Gio Gonzalez's attention and got a ball. I would just like to give you a HUGE thank you because if it wasn't for you and your tips I wouldn't have been able to et that ball.

Now for my question, I am going to Nationals Park on Sunday 8/17/14. Do you have any tips? I have rosters printed, nationals shirt and a pirates shirt and hat. Anything else I should be ready for or expect at Nationals Park?

Thank you.

-RJ, age 14

Hey Zack I'm a huge fan of yours and wanted to know if u are planning on coming to the mets game on Saturday!

Thanks

July 31, 2014

Hello Zack,
My son has been using your technique to collect balls all season. He started collecting NCAA balls while the University of Utah baseball season was in session. He then applied his skills at our Pacific Coast League Triple-A Angels affiliate games, the Salt Lake Bees. We are going to Denver's Coors Field on August 7th. This will be his first Major League game. He is hoping that you might be there too. Unfortunately, we are not able to pay your attendance fee at this time.

Here are his current 2014 stats:
NCAA pac12 balls = 24
Pacific Coast League = 101
Major League = 3 (acquired from our Triple-A field)

Thanks for your time,
Jon (Sam's Dad)

July 24, 2014

Why don't u blog as much as u used too? I always enjoy reading new posts, except this season u haven't been posting as much as the previous years, and it's interesting to read since u give a unique perspective of games as a ballhawk. Thanks if u respond.

July 15, 2014

Hi Zack,

Just wanted to say "Thank You" for signing my 11 year old son Anthony's ball at the Met game on July 11th. You also took the time to chat with him for a few minutes. He was thrilled!!!! We just went out yesterday and bought your books, "The Baseball" and "Watching Baseball Smarter." Anthony is obsessed with baseball and we live at the Syracuse Chiefs ball park since we only live about 15 minutes from there. Usually every game he ends up bruised, cut and/or bleeding trying to get balls. He has over a 100 from there and counting.

You are one of his idols. If you are ever in the Syracuse area please let us know so he can see you.

Thank you,
Jacquie

Hello Zack I love how you get the baseballs I've followed your story for years and was wondering how can I please get a autograph from you? Thanks!

June 30, 2014

Zack-
I am INSANELY interested in your ballhawking hobby. I just have a few questions:
How do you know which ball is which?
How do you store non-special baseballs?
How do you keep track? With a log?
-Christian

PS- I am 12 years old and have only caught one ball. I have my second IronPigs game on my 13th birthday, and I am going with your book and tips in my mind!

Hi Zack,

I Googled "Mike Trout First Career Homerun" and came across your site. I’m so impressed by what you get to do for a living that I decided to write a post titled: "Zack Hample is my idol! He should be your idol too!" I hope you like it. It’s pretty cool to be able to do what you do and I hope you are able to do it for as long as you like. You comment on the Today Show about asking for baseballs in the player's native language is very thoughtful. I linked up to virtually every page you are on (website, twitter, Wikipedia) and provided an Amazon link for my readers to by your books.

I just followed you on Twitter and re-tweeted your message about being at tonight's Red Sox/ Yankees Game. I even commented on your blog.

I’m hoping you will be able to return the favor and link to me in your Links Page and possibly a re-tweet of my post about you! Feel free to follow me on Twitter as well.

Let me know what you think!

Thanks, Dan

June 27, 2014

Crap I just wrote out a long email to you and it erased so ill sum it up then continue . You are my inspiration I have collected 75 baseballs in 15 total games 69 from Bp and I worry more about autographs. I think you are sooo cool and I would like to go to a game with you but I don't know how or when this could happen . I'm 13. Love the Red Sox. I don't know if my parents would let me go to a game with you but they will think you are a total stranger which you are to me at them moment. I have a hard time going to games because money is tight we all know that but I would like to learn more about you through email and maybe we could snag a ball or two if we go to a game sincerely cole

June 23, 2014

Loved the New Yorker article about your family (and you!). I’m a native NY’er (and a lover of books), but – despite having worked down the block from the Argosy for many years – have never been in the store. Will try to remedy that soon (especially after reading the article)! Also, for what it’s worth, would love to see you blog again on a regular basis – have very much enjoyed reading about your ballhawking adventures over the years (as a matter of fact, thanks to what I learned in your blog, I was able to snag my first ball a few years back).

-Ira

June 14, 2014

Hi Zack, I am a big fan of yours and get on your website quite frequently. I also like to collect game used baseballs like you but I only have around 20. I own your book too. I am a huge fan of the pirates and even a bigger fan of former SS Jack Wilson. I saw in one of your posts that he threw you a ball. Would you be willing to give me the ball or let me buy it? I could make a check out to your charity. I don't have a ball used by wilson in my collection, and I have been searching everywhere. The ball would be the jewel of my collection. And I would cherish it forever. Thanks for your time and god bless!

-Josh

June 12, 2014

Hey Zack,
I was thinking of a book to write and I thought that I could make one about you. I am huge fan. I have read every single one of your books and I also read your blog. I was wondering if I could use some of your blog posts in my book, and if you could give me some more info about you. I was also wondering if you are working on another book. You can look at me on mygameballs.com as _____. I follow you on twitter and you can follow me @_____. Please just let me know if I can use some blog posts and some info.
Sincerely,
Gabi

P.S. I am only 9 years old and I have never published a book so I don't know if I can publish a book. But maybe if we can work together we can get it done.

June 10, 2014

Thanks for the reply. It honestly made my day. I think there needs to be more ball hawk videos on youtube. When I watch your videos I feel like im actually there with you. My only problem is being nervous or shy around the players. The only thing cool I ever got was a Diamondbacks hat autographed by 3 players and a broadcaster.

Also, I was just wondering if there is any way I could get your autograph. I look up to you. Every ball hawking trick I learned has come from you. So in a way , you're my idle.

-Arthur

May 22, 2014

Hey Zack,
How do you do it? It's crazy how you can magically catch all those baseballs! I am going to purchase your books, for some of your pro tips. Please tell me when you are going to a Blue Jays game because I would love to meet you and learn from a pro! I am also going to a Yankees game soon, and a few Rockies Games.

May 4, 2014

Hey man. I started getting into baseball memorabilia this year, right after I met Hunter Pence in Philly. I’m a met fan, live in NY, yet have never caught a ball. I just bought your book and hope to read it ASAP so that I can snag my first career ball and start my own log. I’ve only been to two games this season, but I met granderson in both games and recker in the first. Hopefully one day I can meet you at a game. I really enjoyed reading your blog and I would like to say that you are living my dream right now. I am aspiring to be you. Hopefully I will live my dream once Im a bit older, but until then, you are my idol. Thank you so much.

-Isaac, age 14

May 2, 2014

Hey Zack, Its Grant from Michigan. First of all i just want to say that i love what you do. You are basically living my dream from what you are doing. You may as well be called the most interesting man in the world (from my perspective). Anyways, i was just wondering if and when you are going to Comerica Park this year in Detroit. I would love to meet up with you at the game and talk some baseball. I'd love to here from you soon if you could!

April 26, 2014

Hi Zack,
I'm 14 years old and found out about you after watching you ballhawk at Rogers Centre from your hotel on YouTube. I did the same thing :). I have been to 6 major league stadiums, and going to my 7th in Pittsburgh this July. I was wondering what ballpark do you have the most baseballs from? I know it's a tough question to answer so I get if you don't know. I also am wondering if you count baseballs you give away to kids on your list? Thank you for taking the time to read this email and good luck at getting to 10,000. :)

Sincerely,
Tyler

April 20, 2014

You gave me a ball at the mets braves game. I very much thank you for that you made my life.

-Tyler

April 3, 2014

I was at the game last night at CitiField with my two sons, Joseph and Isaac, ages 11 and 14. They said they enjoyed meeting and talking with you in the outfield stands. They have read all three of your books and will bring them next time to get signed.

March 26, 2014

Zack,
Take your time with the blog entry. We love reading them, but we know how much effort and how much time it takes you. Enjoy your trip, write when you can. We will all enjoy your stories when they do come online. Heck, I’m glad someone like you takes these baseball trips and writes about them. You do what we (regular baseball fans) would do in your shoes!

-Johnny

December 30, 2013

Hey Zack. There's something I've been meaning to tell you for a while, it may seem weird but your appearance on the Tonight Show with Conan really made Conan look like a dick, and for some reason I still remember it to this day. And I'm finally trying to get closure on it by sending you a message directly :P

I'm from Europe so I don't watch baseball or know anything about it, but I watched that episode of the show and thought your story was pretty intriguing. I mean, I don't know how hard it is to catch baseballs (I imagine it isn't easy), but still, I know something about passion and could recognize it in you, even if my passion is with music and not sports. So just hearing about what you do made me really curious to hear your story, but all I saw was Conan and that fat guy from Curb being dicks.

I thought the interview went fine until Jeff Garlin started messing with you. And then Conan just seemed like he wanted to do his best Letterman impression by just being mean to his guest. I've never seen him like that. Granted I don't watch Conan religiously, but he always struck me as a nice guy.

I imagine you must have felt like shit being ganged up on by two comedians on [almost] live TV. I mean it has to be nerve wracking enough being on such a show, having the host and his guest team up against you, that's just stupid. And for no reason either.

I'm sure you have forgotten about it by now but I haven't, and just wanted to let you know that Conan looked like a right prick that night. I hope everyone else saw what I saw and didn't just side with Conan for the sake of it. And I don't believe in karma or anything but I'm sure you had a smile when you heard Conan was being fired from the Tonight Show. Jay gets a lot of shit but something tells me he wouldn't have done that to you.

Anyway, yeah, that's what I wanted to say. Your ball is also pretty amazing, that's how I found you in here. See ya.

December 14, 2013

Zack,
This is a somewhat bizarre request. I've followed your blog & have always been fascinated by what you do.
I live in Virginia and while I was growing up, my father and I would try to make the 5-6 hour drive to either Atlanta or Baltimore for at least one series a year. We were (and still are) huge fans of the game.
We always showed up early to games for B.P. and had horrendous luck snagging a ball. The moment frozen in time, though, was when I was about 7 years old (some 18 years ago), on the right field wall at Camden.
My pops caught a BP HR ball in his glove, but he let the force from the liner vault his glove back against the railing which proceeded to send the ball right back onto the field.
It was the closest we came to getting one together and the moment has been a running joke in our family for almost 2 decades.
I don't know if you could make anything happen, but I would absolutely love to get him a BP ball from Camden (and to share your story with him).
If you're ever in Richmond, VA.... My fiancee and I have 4 season tickets on the home dugout for the Flying Squirrels. We'd love to host you & hear some of your stories in person.

Thanks in advance! Bill

December 6, 2013

How are you? I am sure that you are very busy. I emailed you a few days ago. If you could respond, it would be most appreciated. I found out about your amazing blog when the off-season started. I read 2 of your books. Are there any more books coming? I designed my own glove trick (using wire hangers) that I hope to use next season. Would I be able to ask you for a copy of your Cheat Sheet? I tried to figure out a couple languages myself through your blog, but could only find 5 or 6. Thank you again!

-Yosef, age 14

December 2, 2013

Dear Zack Hample,

I am a huge fan of your activities and have heard about your popularity since I was in grade school. I remember the first time I heard about you was when they did an article in Sports Illustrated for Kids and reading on your ballhawking experiences. Then I remembered you again when you caught two home runs in April during a D'Backs vs. Yankees game. I was going to try and meet you when you came to Oakland this year but I was busy that day and couldn't go to that game. Now I am 17 years old and I hope to meet you this upcoming season at an A's game. I would also like to tell you that I have an Oakland A's fan page on instagram and love meeting other baseball diehards. I love all you crazy ballhawkers even though I've never done any myself. Next time you come to Oakland I hope to see you. If you can somehow notify me if you can when you'll be in Oakland, I'd very much appreciate that.

Sincerely,
Karl Goldthorpe

October 25, 2013

Hi Zack, my name is Stephanie Reed. My fiancé is a HUGE Red Sox fan. His 30th birthday is coming up, and I want to do something special for him. We recently moved from Indianapolis to St Louis for my work. In order to do so, he had to quit his job, which he LOVED and also managed. He is now a stay at home father to our 2 year old son, Mason. My fiancé wasn't happy about being a "stay at home father" and his pride took a hit more than anything I think. He is an absolutely amazing father, and he never once has complained about his new role, although I'm sure he would be happier working, the typical "Husbands" role. But along the way, my son and him have become best friends. It's truly special to watch, and inspires me to work harder so this ride never ends. But my question is this: is there any way you would be willing to send him a baseball FROM Fenway? I would be willing to pay for whatever charges it would take to mail the ball to my home, and even pay you for the ball if you would like. It doesn't have to be a special ball, or anything unusual. A typical, everyday batting practice ball would be just fine, as long as it's actually from Fenway. Like I said, my fiancé is a HUGE Red Sox fan (courtesy of his late Grandfather. They would watch games every day when my fiancé was a kid as a way to keep him off the streets etc. his dad worked nonstop, and his mother was never around and eventually left for good when my fiancé was 11. So baseball, Fenway, and his grandpa are literally the only positive things he recalls from his childhood). Now that he is a father himself, my husband is determined to spend every free second he has with our son, doing what else? Watching Red Sox games.  I would forever be grateful if you could provide any assistance whatsoever. I just want to show him how much he means to me, and how much I appreciate all the sacrifices he has made for me, and our son. If you can't help, I understand and I'll figure out a plan B. Thank you so much for your time Mr. Hample, I had a blast reading your blog. I woulda sent this email about 45 minutes ago, but got lost in your adventures! I wish you the best of luck in the future, and hope to see your ball catching glove device on TV one day!! Thanks again for your time and consideration, I know it'll make his 30th bday one he would remember fondly, and not as the "day his youth ended" as he keeps saying lol. Have a great time, good luck, and a sincere thank you one last time.
                              His lucky fiancé,
                              Stephanie

In the event that you can send a Fenway ball, our address and his name is:

Thank you one last time for your time!

October 16, 2013

Hi Zack,

I recently read Watching Baseball Smarter and The Baseball and they're both great, well done! I liked Watching Baseball Smarter specially because there are certain things that because I never played little league or any organized baseball, I didn't understand why they were done, like the Hit and Run which I knew how it was executed, but didn't know what was the advantage or how pitching from the stretch gave pitchers advantage with runners on base. The Baseball was also great specially the part of the timeline of the ball and understanding how the liveliness of the ball affected the entire game.

The how-to guide for snagging balls was of course fantastic, I'm looking forward to next year to try and snag a couple of balls. I do have an suggestion that I would like to make. The suggestion of wearing a hat or something of the visiting team during BP or long-tossing to stand out is great. Another thing you can do, specially for people who cringe at the thought of wearing something other than their team's hats, is to research (always important, maybe add it as a column to the roster that you suggest people take to the games) some players' alma mater and wear that. Or maybe not even wear it, but just try to match the colors and say: "One ball for a fellow Longhorn here Mr. (Drew) Stubbs?" when the Indians visit the Yankees, for example. Maybe even learn learn the school's hand signal or something like that. Of course the drawback is that you can only choose one college, but that might stand out a lot more than a team cap that they see more often and because often, they spent more time with the school than with the team they currently play for. Maybe you can "choose" different colleges when trying to get balls from one team or the other; people around you might notice it, but what are they going to do, put you in baseball jail? :).

Anyway, I hope that's useful for you and maybe suggest it to clients you go to ballparks with if you think it's a good idea. I would love to be able to go to a game with you at some point but my budget doesn't allow it at the moment (on top of the issue that, you know, there's no baseball in NY right now). Maybe during the off season you can offer a different experience like just talking about baseball over coffee or beer?

Anyway, keep up the good work and congratulations on your charity work.

Thanks,
-Pato
